Blog Post #3

Now that we are nearing the end of the term I think our team is finishing strong. We have a solid outline, are aligned with our overall vision for our app, and have started laying down the backend portions of the program.

As we leave the planning portion and begin development, one thing I’m noticing is how keeping the main objectives and functions of the project at the forefront of all our decisons is incredibly crucial. We are all very ambitous and have seen so many great ideas that are outside the scope of this project come out, and they’re ideas I hope we have time to implement, if not can still add on to it once we deliver the final version. I wonder if this is a sentiment developers share, always having more ideas but having to allocate their time wisely.

Something I am also excited for is to begin learning the Swift langauge. Its the langauge our team has elected to use for the IOS portion of our app, and as someone who has not worked with it before, I have been doing my research and am very excited to begin learning this new skill.

Hello! My name is Mel. I am a 4th year Applied CS Major with my focus being in Human-Computer Interaction. I also have a minor in Economics. I am currently located in Central Oregon (PST), where I have a full time job in healthcare working as a PR coordinator, so I would say I have a diverse background when it comes to work and academic experience.

I originally got into computer science because I wanted to better understand cybersecurity and eventually work as an analyst, but through learning about the software design process and the psychology behind creating an accessible/effective user experience, I became drawn towards HCI.

I have the most experience with web development and I am currently working on developing my knowledge with IOS/Android development. Because of this I am especially interested in the Crowd Source Shopping app, Crowd Source Travel Planner app, or the Dating App for Animal Adoption. I am also very open to developing new skills in AI or AR for one of these projects, as it would be a great opportunity to work with tools that are industry standard at this point.

In general, I am very excited for this term and year, and to work with some amazing people to develop our capstone!
