Western Oregon Silviculture Tours
Where the big trees are!
September 30-October 3, 2018
Oregon State University • Corvallis, Oregon
Welcome Silviculture Instructors
Whether you are attending the Portland Convention or not, you are welcome to join the three-day Silviculture Instructors Tour that will be largely based out of Corvallis – home of Oregon State University and the College of Forestry (and College World Series champions). At one time, I thought we’d also be highlighting the newly re-built Peavy Hall, but it apparently will still be a pretty rough construction site in October! Regardless, we will spend a couple evenings on campus, a day on our College Forest here outside of town, a day in western Oregon Douglas-fir forests, a final evening on the Coast in Newport, and a day driving up the Coast and working our way to Portland.
Plan on arriving in Corvallis on September 30th by 7:00pm, our first gathering – we’ll stay two nights on campus (and while classes are in session) at the Holiday Inn Express. On Tuesday October 2nd, though, we’ll work our way to the Oregon Coast and spent the evening there (with a bonfire on the beach). We’ll have you to Portland by 5:00 on Wednesday. Click here for Travel Information.
Our theme will be Douglas-fir management – even-aged approaches and beyond – and how trees and stands grow in this part of the world. We have the research history and operational demonstrations on the College Forest, a long-term study site on BLM land, a sawmill tour, intensive management on private land, and Swiss Needle Cast research on coastal industry lands… all with opportunities to interact with students, faculty and local landowners.
We hope you can make it.
