Stress In The Workplace

This week I took a few quizzes to determine how I manage stress and how that relates to my personality type. Through my results, I discovered that I use “problem focused” strategies to deal with my stress. What that means is that I aim to change or get rid of the problem that is causing me stress instead of managing the emotional response I am having to it. In situations that involve problems that can’t be changed and I have no control over I tend to be more stressed because I can’t directly modify the situation.

In order to help better manage my stress through my professional career, I can develop better time management skills, manage my workload and to not forget to put time aside for myself. Sometimes when I am overwhelmed, I tend to procrastinate which leaves little to no time for the things I need to do and time for unwinding. By managing my time better I can complete important tasks on time with time to spare for myself.

Stress in the workplace doesn’t effect myself but almost every working individual. Further research on the internet shows that mental health conditions are a big concern to current organizations. Some of these include depression, anxiety and their effects on the physical body. Companies are trying to support their employees by providing mental health resources, promoting work life balances and mainly creating a supportive environment that prioritizes mental health. This way they can maintain their work performance while being healthy.
