Finding The Right Job
When finding a job one of the first things people think about is compensation. Compensation is given in many ways and for each employee what level of compensation they feel should be given differs. When people are looking for a job there are two components of compensation extrinsic and intrinsic rewards. Extrinsic is based on pay, benefits, job security and workplace conditions. While intrinsic is based on psychological and social effects. These things were all on my dad’s mind when he was looking for a new job.
Growing up my dad worked in Seattle where he built elevators. while he was there he worked his way up the company over a couple of years and became the foreman of the site. It was a tough job that required a lot of manual labor and hours. The job also did not have great benefits and it was always easy to be replaced. My dad had three kids at this point and he was starting to feel like he needed to make better money and get some better benefits for the family. This is when she started looking into service work on elevators which was also a union-paid job.
As my dad was looking for better compensation good news came his way. He received a call from an elevator company called Kone where they offered him a job doing service work on elevators. The company offered him more money, Union benefits, paid move, and also more freedom to work alone on projects. My dad of course accepted the job and he has said it has been one of the best decisions in his life. the union offers more vacation leave and weekends off which gives my dad more time with his family. The overall benefits and compensation have made my dad and other employees very happy to work for the company.
