Job Description vs. Reality

The last job I had was working as a sales associate at Fabletics. When I first came across the job posting, I quickly skimmed through the bullet points just to get a sense of what I’d be doing. It mentioned helping customers, restocking, working with a team, and hitting sales goals. I already had some customer service experience and enjoy working in fast-paced environments, so it seemed like a good fit and I decided to apply.

Once I actually started working, most of the job lined up with what was described. I spent a lot of time on the floor assisting customers, helping them find the right fit or style, keeping the store looking good, and working shifts with a close-knit team. The team environment and fast pace made shifts go by pretty quickly, and I liked being on my feet and interacting with new people every day.

That said, there was one part of the job that wasn’t totally clear in the posting—how much pressure there was to hit VIP membership sales. While the job description mentioned sales goals, it didn’t emphasize that we were expected to get a certain number of signups each shift. That ended up being a big part of the job, and honestly, it could get stressful when we were behind on numbers.

Overall, the job matched the description for the most part, but I think they could’ve been more upfront about the membership focus. Still, I learned a lot about sales and communication, and it helped me get better at reading people and adapting in real time.
