Week 7 – Blog Post: IPIP Results & Reactions

After taking the enneagram test with instinctual variant results, I was able to reflect on my personality type with the series of questions given. I took time to ensure I was answering based on my experiences over time rather than just me as a person today. I was scored with a most likely to be a type 7 – the enthusiast (pleasure seekers and planners, in search of distraction. Usually I don’t believe tests like these accurately describe more or have few flaws, but after reading the descriptions of type 7, I would definitely say this is very accurate for me. It provides multiple true things about me including; knowing how to network and promote themselves, believing something better is waiting for them, multiple skills, focuses on strengths, and downplay flaws. I find all these to be true and exhibit the different parts of the five dimensions of personality. Although I do believe that 7’s might have more narcissistic traits than I would consider myself to have.

Taking this test and understanding how my personality can be exhibited to a potential employer is important to know what traits contribute to my career success. My type 7 results might tell an employer that I do have high energy, creativity and can balance being highly skilled in the workplace. It will showcase my ability to network with others and my strong skills in communication which can be important for working with a team, clients, and being a leader. These are more sociable skills that employers might want in their workspace to create that specific atmosphere. In terms of the actual work ethic, my type 7 results can show having multiple strengths and skill sets as well as a problem solving mindset that will exhibit a motivated, fast paced employee. While there can be many traits a type 7 has that employers desire, there can also be challenges to a type 7. Some employers may not enjoy the narcissistic traits associated with type 7. I personally don’t feel I have these extreme narcissistic traits of overconfidence or impulsiveness, but if an employer were to look at me as a type 7 then they could assume that of me.
