Workplace Health and Safety

I learned that I am good at managing stressors when they are controllable. I was shocked to find this information out because I feel that I am very thoughtful about what problems are actually fixable. I find that stressing over things that are out of my control is often a waste of time and energy. When I am uncertain if a problem can be solved, I identify my stressors on a written list and circle the things that I can control. This helps me stay focused on what is important and it allows me to better identify a plan of action. One of the most important aspects of managing my stress as I continue to progress through my career is thoughtfulness. It is very easy to react in a way that is uncharacteristic in the heat of the moment however being able to analyze a situation and understand why it makes you feel a certain way is crucial for managing stress. I also found that a lot of organizations provide a form of wellness training or program. Although I believe that these solutions are helpful, I believe true management of stress starts with management and the work environment that you are in. Being able to have difficult conversations with people in your workplace while still being professional and caring is essential in managing your own stressors. I find that taking action and working on your stressors individually is important for developing your ability to handle situations that may be stressful.
