Week #5 – Blog Assignment
My Interview Experience
I have done a lot of interviews in my lifetime with pizza shops, yogurt shops, retail shops, construction companies, and restaurants. They have been all great experiences for me and lessons have all built on each other. But what makes an interview effective or ineffective one may ask. From the interviewers perspective, when it comes to reliability, it’s important to ensure that the questions asked and the evaluation criteria used are consistent across all interviewees. Also, it’s important to minimize any potential biases that may affect the evaluation of candidates. This can be achieved by having multiple interviewers from diverse backgrounds and experiences. When it comes to validity, it’s important to ensure that the interview questions are directly related to the job requirements and that they assess the relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the job effectively. Lastly, when it comes to utility, it’s important to ensure that the interviews are effective in predicting job performance and that they provide useful information for making hiring decisions.
If I were to go back to all these interviews there is some things I can say to increase effectiveness. The first thing I would say to increase effectiveness is to use a standard interview format to ensure that all interviewers have the same fair chance. Secondly, conduct a job analysis to identify critical competencies required for the job and tailor interview questions to specifically assess those competencies. Lastly, I would say to make sure there’s no pressure added and that the interviewer knows that this is a normal conversation with no fear or pressure.
