Discrimination

I’ve always thought that the way a company treats people says more than any product or service they offer. So if I saw a news article saying my favorite company was being sued for discrimination especially against a group I identify with it would definitely change how I see them. Even if it were just claims I think it would make me think about supporting the company any longer. I’d want to learn more like whether this was a one time thing or if there’s a history behind it. But I couldn’t ignore it I’d feel disappointed, maybe even angry, that a company I supported could treat people poorly. If I saw no real accountability from the company I wouldn’t feel good about continuing to support them. I’d probably stop buying from them until I saw they were making things right.

And as far as working for that company it would definitely make me think twice. Even if the job was great I’d wonder if I’d be treated fairly there. I’d worry about if my values lined up with theirs anymore. Culture matters in the workplace and I wouldn’t want to be part of something that doesn’t take inclusion seriously. Actions speak louder than words, companies have a responsibility to do better, and when they don’t, it matters.
