Graduate Research Assistant Position – 2021
Location: Corvallis, Oregon
Closing Date: Applications will be reviewed starting July 1, 2020 but will continue to be accepted until a suitable candidate is selected. The position will begin January 2, 2021.
Position Summary: A PhD or a Masters graduate research assistantship is available with the Department of Crop and Soil Science at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon. We are seeking a motivated, passionate student interested in weed science to work with Dr. Judit Barroso and Dr. Caio Brunharo. Research project will focus on understanding the spread and resistance levels of troublesome weed species in wheat. Topic areas include: mapping the spread of herbicide resistance; quantify the resistance levels; identify the patterns of resistance; study the herbicide resistance mechanisms; and identify management practices to reduce weed infestation. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory research. Possibility to gain teaching experience by serving as TA in a weed science course.
- Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, plant science, horticulture, or related fields with strong academic record by January 2, 2021.
- Strong writing and oral communication skills.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree seeking a PhD program.
Work Experience: Previous experience with field, greenhouse, and laboratory research is desired, but not required (we will teach you).
