Content templates make starting a website project easier

January 24th, 2012

Before you begin any new website project (or a major overhaul of an existing site), you should take a long, hard look at your content. One helpful planning step is to make an outline of everything you’d like to have on your site. Organize the outline hierarchically so that you know how to nest navigation.

You can also use a content template is one way you can get organized prior to building a website. This content template was created for our OSU Standard theme. This template takes the special regions and features available in this theme into consideration. It could be useful for users switching from a different them to the latest version of Standard.

When switching to a new template or theme, or when starting a brand new site, something that often happens is that the content looks awkward or even overwhelmed by the template. It’s like putting together a model airplane that somehow never quite looks as good as the version on the box. Especially if you skipped a few steps in the instructions.

So use a content template to get organized and be better prepared for launching your next web project.

Website quick start guide

January 24th, 2012

With multiple departments providing web services and a host of different options for building and maintaining websites at OSU, it can be quite a daunting task to simply decide where to begin. So we created this quick start guide to help point you in the right direction.

Your always also welcome to contact our office for advice or to arrange a consultation.

New College Websites

January 9th, 2012

We’ve recently assisted with the launch of two major college websites at OSU as part of our ongoing effort to bring a common content management platform, page architecture and brand identity to the university.

With the help of amazing partners at the College of Engineering and the College of Agricultural Sciences, we were able to refresh the main sites fore each.  We’ve also created a set of templates the the departments, programs and centers in each college can use.

Thanks to everyone at the colleges, CWS and WC who helped bring both these projects online.

Relentless: coming soon

September 26th, 2011

We are going to be exploring a whole new level of rich web content with the upcoming feature documentary, Relentless: The Global Formula Racing Pursuit of Perfection. Our team’s multimedia producer, Justin Smith, has been following the exploits and dedication of a group of OSU engineering and business students for more than a year, and he’s gathered some amazing footage and insight into the drive that has pushed them to pursue their second championship run.

New look for the OSU Admissions blog

September 22nd, 2011

Working with Blake Vawter and Derek Whiteside in Admissions and Enrollment Management, we’ve rolled out a new look for the OSU Admissions Blog.  It integrates some multimedia features and videos that are companion pieces to articles in the printed viewbook. The Admission’s Office pioneered effective blogging on campus, and they’ve led the way in using SEO to drive traffic back to OSU.

Changes, changes

September 22nd, 2011

We’re sorry that we’re losing two of our amazing staff members this fall. Carol Andrews, after more than twenty years at OSU, a time that included building the university’s first websites from scratch, retired as of September 1st.  The great news is that she’s still sticking around part-time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so we’ll continue to tap into her wealth of knowledge, talent and matchless customer service attitude.

Truen Pence, our Digital Brand Manager, is also leaving OSU on October 7th.  Truen has been an invaluable leader for OSU online. He created the visual design for our award-winning home page, and you can’t look anywhere online without seeing his hard work. He’s been a tremendous force in creating a welcoming, consistent and contemporary image of the university online. Truen is heading to Instrument where he will be creating multimedia for little companies like Facebook, Nike and Google.

We congratulate both Carol and Truen, and thank them for everything they’ve done for the university.

OSU Colleges launch two new sites

August 23rd, 2011

We’d like to congratulate the communications teams at the College of Pharmacy and the College of Public Health and Human Sciences for launching new sites. These were two very large projects that included teams at the colleges as well as Web Communications and Central Web Services.

The new sites model OSU’s brand guidelines and tie closely to our home page, but they also retain some unique qualities for the respective colleges.

We’re nearing the midpoint of our push to get all of our colleges into an aligned, current, unique look that is based on the Drupal content management platform.

Thanks to everyone who worked hard on the sites.
