Effective Interviews

Job interviews are typically the first real interaction between a candidate for a position and a potential employer. Job interviews are where the candidate assesses the company and the opportunities or risks and drawbacks that might come with the position they are considering. Job interviews are also typically the company’s first true analysis of the candidate. The employer might ask questions about a candidate’s previous experience, or their current obligations. Most importantly, a job interview is a social interaction between the hiring body representing the company and the candidate. This is important because the interview is intended to be an interaction between the candidate and the hiring body where both parties determine if the candidate is a good fit for the company and if the company is a good fit for the candidate. (Selection 2024) Personally, I have only participated in one true job interview. The job interview that I participated in was an interview for a laborer position at a construction company. During the interview our main topic of discussion was the duration of time that I would spend with the company. The reason we needed to discuss my potential time with the company was because the position that I was applying for was intended for someone that would be with the company long -term. Given that I was planning on staying in college I would only be with the company for a few months prior to returning to college. During the interview we had a good interaction, and we were able to make a plan so that I could take a position with the company for only a few months without being a burden to the company. Based off everything that I have learned from formal courses and my experience with job interviews are meant to be an initial interaction between the company and the candidate where both parties get a feel for the opportunities present, given the traits of the candidate and the characteristics necessary for the position.
