Here’s the skinny: There’s a new kid on the block and it’s name is VVOSU. We are anyone who is a vegan, vegetarian or curious about becoming one of those. What our goals are:
To bring together individuals who share common diet values, exchange vital knowledge and know-how pertaining to a Vegan or Vegetarian lifestyle. Inform and raise awareness throughout the community about the source and production of our food, as well as the negative consequence it has on animals and the environment. Expose the Corvallis community to alternative diet choices that could help their health and well being. To be a reliable on-campus resource for students who would like to educate themselves on modern day food practices and what it could mean for them. To aid students in achieving healthier lifestyles through diet choice. To help improve the OSU and Corvallis community by becoming involved in various projects throughout the year.
It’s a very informal and fun group of dedicated individuals. If you wanna come check us out you can contact Amanda Rhodes with your name and phone number at vegansandvegetarians@gmail.com or visit our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Vegans-Vegetarians-at-OSU/161887133844777 to see what we’re up to.
Here’s a couple videos for your entertainment. The first one is from Dan Piraro creator of the cartoon Bizarro and the second is by a man that I personally met and body builder extraordinaire Robert Cheeke.

Hey,
I’ve been looking at OSU as an option for when I transfer later in college and I was wondering what the vegan options in town and at the school were like.
Thanks for your time and patience,
Alex

Corvallis is definitely no Portland when it comes to vegan options, but they can be found if you’re looking for them. I would LOVE to move to Portland instead, but sadly my program isn’t offered there.
If you can handle not knowing if your meal has been cooked/prepared on the same surface as animal bits then you’re golden. There is a strictly vegetarian coffee house called Interzone that serves pretty good food (lately have been featuring vegan baked goods and their Sat and Sun menu have specific vegan stuff http://interzoneorganic.com/menu.html), and a restaurant called Nearly Normals (http://www.nearlynormals.com/MenuIndex.html). I go to Cafe Yumm where you can ask for vegan and they know what it means(http://www.cafeyumm.com/menu.html#yumm), and Laughing Planet too. The Laughing Planet is kick ass because they label on the menu what’s vegan. Check out the menu here: http://laughingplanetcafe.com/LPFOOD4web.pdf
The Yogurt Extreme has a sorbet and fresh fruit for dessert if you’re out and about. First Alternative Co-op also serves up some by the pound pre-made goodness in their salad bar with full ingredient lists. I’ve roamed around the campus diners and they don’t have vegan options posted well, but they are online: http://oregonstate.edu/uhds/dining/menus/vegan_vegetarian.php
If you need something quick at home Amy’s brand is awesome because you flip over any package and the first thing you see in the ingredient list if it’s vegan is a bold (VEGAN) and then everything that’s in it. I have read all of them anyway, because I’ve been duped in the past. I’m not a honey eating vegan, but I know sometimes that’s a gray area. Kroger brand which is sold in Fred Meyer out here, labels their food with a “vegan” symbol, but I’ve found them to contain honey sometimes. Unless it’s the label from Vegan Action it can be iffy. Here’s their website: http://www.vegan.org/campaigns/certification/index.html
I cook all the time and love it, so I’m sorry if this list is a little skimpy.
Cheers!
