Team Work

Divide and conquer together, separately.

I am on a team of 5, scattered across the country, all working remotely to implement an i8080 emulator.

Teamwork is working together, when taken literally is literally impossible for us, so we will be doing team work this term.

“Teamwork, N.” Oxford English Dictionary, Oxford UP, July 2023, https://doi.org/10.1093/OED/2265535901.

Yet we must do teamwork as well, despite its impossibility.

Teamwork to divide, team work to conquer, teamwork to assemble, then repeat.

We completed our team standards assignment yesterday. Our agreement was essentially agreeing to do all the things our course’s readings said we should agree to.

Our main resource for teamwork on this project is Microsoft Teams. We will use it for a weekly call and asynchronous chat.

Our main resource for team work on this project is GitHub. We will use it as a central repository for our project code.

The interconnect between our teamwork and our team work is going to be our Kanban board and code reviews on pull-requests.

While I have done Kanban boards, code reviews, and pull-requests on previous projects this will be the first project complicated enough to warrant them.

Project Selection

Welcome to blogs.oregonstate.edu/vaughner. I don’t know what project I’ll be doing yet, but I’ve submitted my preferences:

  1. Microcontroller Home Humidity Sensor
  2. Build an Emulator and Run Space Invaders ROM
  3. RTOS Development and Analysis
  4. Website Security Research Project
  5. Malware Analysis
  6. The Job Hunting AI Web Tool

In my selection I was looking for projects the focus more on exploring how a computer works rather than building an app (my 6th choice was an app). I would have liked to do an industry project, and I saw that there were embedded and other low level industry projects, but they were not available for the 3 month version of this class. My guess is that for these types of projects to be commercially useful requires more work than could be reliably done in 3 months at the undergraduate level.
