Typical vs. Maximal Performance: Choosing Between Potential and Consistency

If I were the business owner, I would choose to hire Jaime. Avery might be more talented when they try, but the performance is not reliable. In an important role, I need someone who shows up every day and gets the job done. Jaime may not be the best of the best, but is consistent, dependable, and someone you can count on. That kind of steady work is valuable because it keeps things running smoothly without surprises or problems.

A job I could  someone like Avery would be a better choice is something creative or project-based, like a graphic designer, freelance writer, or video editor. Since these jobs do not always need someone to do the same thing every day. Instead, they need someone who can create something great when it is really needed. If Avery gives their best effort during key moments, I could see it making a big difference in that kind of job.

Jobs I see that Jaime would be a better fit for is ones that require routine and reliability, like a receptionist, data entry clerk, or stockroom worker. These jobs depend on showing up on time, being organized, and doing the same tasks every day without mistakes. Jaime’s consistent performance would be perfect in these roles, helping everything stay on schedule.

The choice really depends on the kind of work that needs to be done. If the job depends on high performance once in a while, Avery might be the right pick. But if daily work and consistency matter most, Jaime would be the better choice and for most essential roles, that is what I would choose.
