and internships, and now, I have held several summer jobs, internships, and a full-time job. Every job has been trained slightly differently, with some ways being very effective and some ways that I did not think worked very well at all. Some of the job training that I have done that was effective was when I was trained by someone in a higher position to ensure that what was being taught was the right things for the company.
Working at various different places throughout the summer, one of the training pieces that I have found to be the most informative and effective is not through training videos but rather through doing what is being taught. Ultimately, when training takes place, the goal is for your employees to become familiar with the systems that the company has implemented. while there are some trainings that have to be done in a classroom or by video, to explain things. I think that companies should stay away from using videos to train when possible. Usually, when this is used to train employees, they do not pay attention very well since the videos are typically boring.
The hands-on training has always been the most effective in my experience. It is easier to remember what is being taught if you are completing the tasks as you are learning it, so you understand the reasoning behind the training, which also usually makes it easier to remember. When practicing hands-on training, it is important to make sure that the person who is doing the training understands what they are teaching and that they do it the right way. If the person performing the training does not do it right, they could be teaching bad habits to new employees and this is not good.
