Skills learned in this course

Learned how to start a new blog and keep it updated

Learned about Microsoft Picture Manager and how to use it to edit pictures and save them in formats I can use in other programs

Learned how to make in text citations and links

Learned how to record computer screen without camera

Learned how to use YouTube

What did you learn that you weren’t expecting?

The things I learned how to do that I was not expecting included being able to edit pictures and other media. I had no idea doing those things could be so easy and I am glad I know how since that knowledge will help me greatly in my business.

Did you meet the course objectives?

Yes!

How will you apply the new knowledge in your education/career/home?

I am going to be starting a new website for my business using WordPress now that I know how. I am also going to be using my knowledge I have gained from this class to help me start another new blog for my activist activities.

Does this course exemplify feminist pedagogy? And if so, how?

I believe that this class does in fact exemplify feminist pedagogy because it helps to empower women by showing them they can use technology for their benefit that has been widely promoted as being used primarily for men.

Women can use technology to help them in education, business, and pleasure. With the knowledge of how to use technology we are able increase this awareness for other women as well.

As most of my fellow students know it has been a busy and hectic week with finals, studying and finishing up projects and papers. I am glad to be about done with the term and hope to finish everything up for all of my classes this weekend except for the final I have next Friday.

This week I have been working on my teach project. I am using software that I found on the internet for free to record my computer screen without a camera. It is called CamStudio. It can be found and downloaded at here.

I had a little difficulty learning how to get the settings of the software the way I needed them but think I have it figured out well now. I have always wondered how people make those online tutorials on facebook and thought maybe they just filmed the screen of the computer with a video camera. Now there is an easy way to make quick videos showing people how to do something right from your desktop. Pretty cool!

Making the budget for my India trip excited me because it really looks like I could manage to save for it. I have always wanted to make that trip but feared I would never be able to afford it. This project allowed me to see it is a real possibility even with my meager income.

I was able to get the text to speech function to work by following the detailed instructions I found in the intructions for this weeks assignement. I was not hard to do at all. You can find them here.

I can see how this function would be helpful to those that are visually impaired but for me it is really annoying. The Speech is very robotic and distracting. I tried using it for several types of text and websites and had the some opinion for each.

I will not be using this function but I am glad I know about it for friends of mine that could use it.

It has been a long and rough couple of weeks. I am significantly behind in a few of my classes and have had a hard time catching up. Now that I have finally gotten the hang of the blogging portion of the culture site project it is finally done. I am using my new knowledge to work on another class/personal project and think I am doing really well so far. You can check it out here if you would like.

I have been slow to get the last two weeks of homework finished because of a couple reasons, I have been really depressed after learning that my Uncle has endstage prostate cancer and is not doing well. We have watched him lose so much weight recently and knew he must be ill. He and my Aunt practically raised me when I was a youngster. It is really tough, I just lost my Aunt this time last year and have still not made peace with that yet and now this. To add to it I had a large stump fell on my leg last weekend and recieved a laceration down to the bone right above my ankle. Not sure which hurts more though, my leg or my heart.

I know this is not really the place for this type of boohoo but it is what I have at the moment, no other family to talk to or anyone that would understand. Just an avenue to get it out I guess.

I met with the WS Librarian, Jane Nichols, last week and found her to be very easy to talk to and extremely willing to help. She was easy to relate to and had resources on the tip of her tongue when I asked.

I had some frustration in trying to find resources online where I was only able to get the abstract of journal articles or book sections and asked her how I could remedy this. She explained to me how to use the OSU Library links to get the full text of the resources I was trying to look at. She also told me how to request publications that the library did not already have.

I have been able to easily find resources and citations with her helpful hints. I also know that she is just a click/phone call/email/quick office visit away when I need more help.

Thank you Jane!!
