About me & this blog

Hello, my name is Kathleen Salinas. I am a teacher of Adult Basic Skills at Rogue Community College. I teach science, math, and English as a second language. I enjoy learning about the ocean: it’s geology, biology, and chemistry.

I have been invited to spend a week on the Research Vessel, Wecoma. This large boat is used for ocean science activities that take place off the coast of Oregon. We sail out of Newport at 10 AM, Saturday morning. If you are in the area, you can wave to us as we sail under the bridge.

This is the second time that I have been a ‘Teacher at Sea’. You can still find my stories from my 2005 trip with the crew and scientists aboard the New Horizon when we studied plankton layers off the coast of California near Santa Cruz.

I am looking forward to learning about the experiments the scientists are planning on doing while at sea. I plan to share the information with students and other individuals who are curious about what oceanographers discover while at sea. Please feel free to write back to me if you have any questions or comments.
