History

The OSU Student Foundation was founded in 1973 to integrate OSU students into the world of fundraising, philanthropy and university relations. From the late 70s to early 90s, our intention was to assist the OSU Fund, anannual assistance program, by supplying volunteers to call OSU alumni for donations.

At first, the Student Foundation received 10% of all money raised for the purpose of funding student organizations. As the number of volunteers increased, so did the dollars raised. In about 1984 the percentage was increased to 20%. By 1992 the student volunteer calling program was phased out and a grant was established to maintain our organization, a valuable resource to the Oregon State community.

The grant from the OSU Foundation was established as an annual grant for the Student Foundation to distribute to organizations as they see fit, providing the groups exemplify the core values of Oregon State. Until the Student Foundation was established, students had limited funding options such as colleges within the university or the University President.

From 1995 on, the Student Foundation has been a grant-based resource for Oregon State Students. In 2007 that grant increased in order to sustain an expanding extracurricular environment at Oregon State.

Today the Student Foundation remains the fastest, most consistent means of funding for Student Organizations. Our mission remains the same: to sustain student organizations and expand the value these organizations bring to our evolving community.
