INTO USA, Evaluation Guide
Admission to Oregon State University Programs

This is an internal guide only and is not meant to imply that meeting the requirements listed as minimum entry qualifications will necessarily qualify as admission to Oregon State University or INTO Oregon State University.

We look for students who are motivated, intellectually curious and who have high standards for their own achievement and are seeking an environment of academic rigor and quality. We offer over 200 undergraduate degree programs, 81 graduate degree programs with 6 Pathway programs leading to direct University admission. Please refer to the following guide to determine minimum entry qualifications but please be aware that this is not inclusive of all grading requirements. If a particular country is not listed or if there are additional questions, please contact us at intladmit@oregonstate.edu and one of our admissions staff will be happy to assist.

The assessment and evaluation of foreign academic credentials for US University entrance is not an exact science. Grading systems and educational structures vary widely around the world, and so we view each application individually to determine if the applicant meets the standards for success at Oregon State University. Students who already have University level credits and would like to transfer to OSU need to be aware that those credits may not necessarily count towards credits needed to earn an OSU degree. Applicants should carefully review graduation requirements for the specific degree program to understand basic requirements and hours needed. For applicants interested in seeking a post-baccalaureate degree or a professional degree, please inquire.

Please note that for an application to be considered for academic evaluation complete transcripts are required. This means that all transcripts must be translated into English; they must be signed and/or stamped by the institution to attest its authenticity. Transcripts must be a word-for-word translation of the original language, and in most cases a copy of the transcript in the language of origin is also required. If submitting high school or secondary school transcripts, 2.5 years (at minimum) of academic work must be presented. For Graduate programs, a complete transcript (up to date of application) must be presented with, at minimum, 7 semesters of coursework and grades.

Evaluation for Undergraduate Programs

What tools are used for evaluations?
Oregon State University
OSU will follow best practices for evaluation set forth through. All credential evaluations are calculated using a combination of evolution method sources including AACRAO’s EDGE, NAFSA, NCAA, WES, ECE and others.

What subjects areas are the computations based on?

All credential evaluations are calculated using a combination of evaluation method sources, including the AACRAO EDGE database.

How is a GPA (Grade Point Average) calculated for undergraduate programs?
Oregon State University
The GPA is calculated by averaging all graded coursework. If credits are assigned, the GPA is calculated by the simple arithmetic average of all weighted grades divided by the number of credits or secondary units of credits. In calculating the GPA, the original grade scale is also taken into consideration. For instance, in some countries a 70 is equivalent to ‘C’ while in others to ‘B’. As a result it is not possible to universally state that a 70 is always the equivalent of a ‘C’. We take into consideration the institution’s grading scale.

To get an arithmetic average, we use the following method:

  1. Multiply each grade by the corresponding number of credits to get a weighted grade.
  2. Separately add the total for all weighted grades and the total number of credits.
  3. Then divide the total for weighted grades by the total number of credits to get the average. (See table in Appendix 2) .
