October 2011

Those of you who went yesterday, your evals are in your ‘Fall seminar’ folders.  Don’t forget to start your reflection!  Please let me know if you have any questions. We will do our wrap-up discussion of it next week.  If you haven’t done so, please jot down some notes on the opening and closure process [...]

Those of you who did your peer rehearsal for Openings and Closures last week, your reflection part 1 is due today.  For those that went today, it’s due next Thursday.  Remember that the next step is to record a video of an opening and closure from your teaching to upload by 11/17 for video club. For Monday: Read from DESI (pp. 107-112) on making meaning in the science classroom. Look over the “express” version of the ‘Making sense of material activity” discourse.  You can ignore all but the first page.

Please e-mail me when complete assessment strategies are ready for me to review.  I expect it to be in your work sample folder.  Also, don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions. NamHwa

Hi Math Colleagues, I wanted to let you know that the Knuth et. al (2009) article is in our math pedagogy folder in preparation for Wed. class. There will be two major activities we will do. 1. We are going to share our assessment plans in class and discuss validity and [...]

For Wednesday: Read the article on laboratories as well as the “After the Lab” article. Begin thinking of a laboratory from your work sample (or one that you would do in the not-so-distant future). With your peers, create a laboratories handout.  Use the document ‘Effective laboratories handout’ in the ‘Science pedagogy’ folder.

For the 5 of you who did your peer rehearsal yesterday, your instructor, peer, and self feedback is in a file called ‘Opening and closings feedback – LastName’ in your ‘Fall seminar’ folder.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

We will be doing peer rehearsals for our Openings and Closures instructional activity this Thursday and next.  The 6 teachers rehearsing each day will be evaluated by the other 6 teachers not rehearsing, the instructor, and themselves.  After your rehearsal, please begin working on part 1 of the ‘Effective openings and closures reflection’ which can [...]
