About
This blog will document the activities during an 8 day research cruise aboard the R/V Pelican in the Gulf of Mexico. There are 11 scientists on board and all scientists will be adding their own perspectives.
This will be a 3 ship operation. The R/V Pelican will be the lead research vessel and will be mapping the distributions of fish (underwater acoustics), zooplankton (optical plankton counter and acoustics) and physical/chemical conditions. A second vessels will be following the lead vessel and targeting midwater and bottom trawls at fish concentrations identified by the Pelican. This effort will help identify fish species, get detailed measurements of sizes and save fish samples for subsequent diet and chemical analyses. The third vessel will be collecting additional biological samples for zooplankton.
