0730 September 7 – Still at Sea

Posted by: | September 7, 2010 | No Comment |

We are still at sea. Our sister ship is safe in port. Last night was probably the largest seas. We started transect ‘C’ but were not able to deploy the fish acoustics.. too rough. We did deploy the Scanfish and collected good data…The instrument only crashed into the bottom once (also not good). Finished the transect at about midnight and started transect “B’ at 0200. We are about to finish that about 0900 or so.

The seas have now moderated but there are still large swells and we have the seas following us. Once we finish this, we will steam towards the bay (about 3 -4 hours) and then do our acoustic calibrations before we head into port sometime late this afternoon???
