Job Description Challenges
Job Descriptions may seem like small details to some but are imperative for hiring, job growth and maintaining a good work ethic. These descriptions can help companies decide what employees will and won’t do in their day to day but also hold employees accountable for themselves. For the employees, it sets a benchmark for what they must maintain and exceed from there.
One of the main concerns and challenges for employees and their employers is how often job descriptions are updated with each new person coming in and the current employees that work there. For employers, there can be some human resources challenges that could arise. When employers do not update their job description and change employees’ roles over time, it can lead to complaints and a lack of work done within their area. This can lead newer employees to misunderstand what is expected out of them and not be able to complete some tasks. For the employees reading job descriptions, it can mislead them into thinking they are being hired for one role but taking on another.
In order for companies to overcome this challenge they must work with Human Resources to ensure they have an updated job description before posting, as frequently as possible. In order to do this, they can look at their directors of the areas themselves, and even the higher ups to get critiques into what they are looking for. When doing this, employees can come in with more knowledge of what their job will be entailing. It will result in less of a turnover overall and happier employees with the company. For people who are looking for jobs and reading these descriptions, it is imperative that in job interviews, they are asking detailed questions. If employees and future employers can be honest and forthcoming about expectations, it will make both sides open to the future within their career.
