It’s summer, the sun is shining, and taking a vacation is on everyone’s mind! Usually vacation time consists of a quick weekend trip, perhaps a road trip, or maybe even just staying home (“staycation” anybody?). However…every once in a while you want that one large, big time vacation. You want to go far away to a land you’ve never seen before! During a recent daydream session I came up with a list of places that I’d like to go. There were the usual paradise places – Hawaii is always at the top of the list, of course – but I also thought of some locations in different parts of the world. Having not been out of North America I thought it would be fun to check out places in Europe like England, Scotland, Ireland, and the Scandinavian countries (especially Denmark). I’m a big fan of history, and there is of course lot’s of it in western Europe! Since my ancestors are from that region of the world, that history is especially interesting to me.
However, I thought it might also be fun to check out locations a little further south and west, in the Mediterranean region. Places like Egypt, Greece, and maybe even Jerusalem would be awesome to tour around. If you’re going to talk about history…old, old history…then you have to see this part of the world. To me Egypt and the pyramids would be especially interesting. I’ve always been intrigued by the process of building pyramids. After all, they are one of the Seven Wonders of the World! Beyond Egypt, going on Greece or Israel travel tours would be pretty awesome too! So many things to see down there, it would take weeks to even make an attempt to do the region justice.
What about Asia? South America? Southern parts of Africa? Well, I’m going to rule out South Africa itself. This decision is mostly based off of the World Cup. =-) If I have to hear another vuvuzela horn…ay yi yi. This is a tangent and totally irrelevant to my travel daydreams, but talk about a crazy World Cup! The poor U.S. team was screwed multiple times by the ref’s, played super exciting games, but were unfortunately eliminated too quickly. And all the while I had to listen to those dang vuvuzela horns buzzing like a hive of bees. Yeesh! But I digress…
Have you ever watched videos or read about the unreal numbers of people who go to visit Israel each year? It’s insane. I’m sure the demand for Christian tours to Israel from the United States is always booming, as well as the Jewish tours of course. Maybe I should just jump in with a local church group heading over and get my vacation in that way! Going with a group and perhaps some people experienced in that region would definitely be a good thing. =-)
So, what is the plan for getting to take the grand world tour I’d like? I’ve narrowed it down to three quick and easy (yeah right) steps!
1)Save money
2)Save more money
3)Plan the trip and buy those tickets!
Of course, maybe I’ll just get a one-way ticket and backpack around Europe for a while. That always seems to be the dream. =-) Nah..I think I’ll stick with suitcases and hotels for my travels!
