First Blog Post
For my first blog post, I want to talk a bit about what got me started with computers and software and my journey to ending up here in the Oregon State University post-bacc program. What first got me interested into software development was my father, he works as a software engineer for Lockheed Martin and growing up I looked up to him and the skill he had for software design and as I got older he started to push me to get into it. Once I got into middle and high school I started experimenting with modding my games such as Minecraft and Terraria as my first steps into software development. From this point I had fallen in love with it and wanted to continue to pursue it in college. I started out majoring in Computer Science at Arizona State University and did quite well my first year in the program. But once I started to reach some of the higher level math courses I lost a lot of hope and gave up on myself and ended up switching majors. Once I graduated with my Anthropology degree which I also loved learning about, in my heart I regretted my decision to switch because I really did still love software development and was mad at myself for giving up. So a year after graduating I applied here to the Oregon State University post-bacc program and now back to pursuing my dream of software development. Failing the first time when it came to getting my Computer Science degree ended up being a blessing in disguise as it showed me that if I want to succeed I can’t be afraid to fail, life is gonna throw hard problems or lessons at you and you just have to work through them one step at a time. I am excited to cap off my learning journey with this class and move forward into my future career after graduating!
