I think that I have grown alot as a writer and blogger this term. When I initially began to blog I was not sold on the whole concept of blogging. I was very shy to post things because I was afraid of what people would say. As the semester went on I became very confident in my writing and blogging style. I have seen myself open up more on my blogs and love being able to share a story!

After the course I still plan on blogging. I am not sure if I will post frequently on this blog but will post on twitter. This class was very interesting to me and now I see why people love to blog. I wouldn’t necessarily say it will be a new hobby of mine but I will participate in the blogging community.

There were many things that surprised me about my writing and learning. I found that I am a very confident writer who has a good writing tone. I found that I can learn how to do things that I never have done, which is real fulfilling.

If I had to describe my writing voice, tone, and personality I would say that I am very down to earth writer. I don’t come of too harsh but am not afraid to say what I feel an can care less what others have to say. I am very opinionated and I think it shows in my writing.

Honestly I put alot of time and effort into my blog. I have never had a blog before so everything was new to me and I had to learn alot. I have spent a good amount of time writing my blogs but that was’nt the hard part. The hard part and most time consuming was learning to do everything that was required for the course.

This blog right here is dedicated to my mother Mora Cole! She is my hero in life. Growing up I did not have my father in my life and she was stuck raising five kids by herself and I must say she done a damn good job. I can remember her working two jobs so that the family had everything we needed while doing numerous other things. I do not think that there is a bigger mommas boy in the world. I am definitely a mommas boy and am proud to have the mother I have.

Due to my mom having such a strong work ethic, my sibling and I have adopted that from her. Growing up I tried my hardest in everything I did. I performed well in school and also worked my butt of in sports, and I played many. I played football, basketball, ran track, and wrestled. I remember always telling my mom that when I get older I am going to make it to the NFL and be successful so that she never has to work again. I have put countless hours of work towards becoming the best football player I can be and it has payed off for me. I have received a football scholarship to play for the Oregon State Beavers and am now one step away from accomplishing my dream.

I owe everything I am as a person, and athlete to my mom. She has shaped me into the man I am today and has instilled many values in me that would be with me for the rest of my life. Words can not explain how grateful I am for her and without her I do not know where I would be. Im sure she’s going to read this one day and I just want to tell her that I love you and and proud to call you mom!

If you follow sports you know who Kevin Durant is. He plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder and is arguable the best scorer there is in the NBA. He was won the NBA scoring title the last three years and has only been in the league for four years, which is amazing. He has all the intangibles to be one of the best scorers the league has ever seen. He is about 6’10, plays small forward and moves around on the court as if he was 6 feet. He is a mismatch for anyone who is guarding him because there are not many people at his position that has the combination of height and speed that he has.

Coming into the league many thought that he was too small and weak to be affective, because he is really skinny and was not able to bench press 185 pounds when he came out of the university of Texas. Boy did he prove his doubters wrong. He not only proved that strength did not matter but he also proved that not being muscular was not a problem. He came into the league and immediately took many by storm. His team is currently playing in the Western conference finals, and his team is one of the youngest teams in the NBA. When you watch this guy play you better be ready for a show. He takes guys off the dribble, he dunks on people, he post people up, and it seems like he has unlimited range.

If you are not a fan of Kevin Durant you should be. I do not personally know him but from watching him play and listening to press conferences he is a very humble guy. He does not talk a lot of trash like many other players do but will go out and give you 40 on any given night. I have been a fan of Durant sense he was at Texas and became more of a fan once he came into the NBA. Here is a link to some of his highlights, the guy is simply amazing!

This season was a world wend for both the Lakers and Laker fans. Going into the season the Lakers had one of the best teams on paper. They had just about the same team that they had when they won the NBA championship. The began the year playing mediocre and the organization was not happy with what they were seeing, so they began to look at trading some of their players. They originally tried a blockbuster trade for one of the best point guards in the league (Chris Paul). They were going to give up power forward Lamar Odom and power forward/center Pau Gasol. Both players were key for the Lakers when they won the championship.

The Chris Paul trade never ended up happening but multiple trades did happen due to players that were going to be traded getting mad at the organization. Lamar Odom came out publicly saying how hurt he was that he was going to get traded and demanded to be traded. The Lakers ended up trading Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks for damn there nothing ( a draft pick). Then after Lamar got traded the Lakers ended up trading another key man on the team which was their starting point guard Derek Fisher for their current point guard Ramon Sessions. The Lakers performed well during the year but you can tell that the players they traded really hurt the team. The Lakers ended up losing in the second round of the playoffs and let it be known that they were looking to trade for some help.

What amazed me was that Lamar Odom, and another former Laker Trevor Ariza are some of the top players that the Lakers are trying to get back in L.A. Lamar Odom has expressed that he loves L.A. and many think that he would be open to coming back, while there is not a lot said about Trevor Ariza. If the Lakers were to get both former players back, their team would be much stronger and many would consider them being championship contenders. As a Laker fan myself I hope they pull the trade off so we can get back to winning championships, because we were missing pieces on the team and adding both Lamar and Trevor would help dramatically.

This past year in sports has been really crazy. First there was a lockout in the National Football League (NFL) and then there was a lockout in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This was the first time ever that there was a lockout in both major leagues. The information regarding the lockout is very confusing and I could not break it down to you if I wanted. My overall scope of the lockouts were that players in both sports were asking to get paid more money while the owners believed that the players are already getting paid enough. Eventually both the NFL and NBA resolved their problems between the players and owners; which made a lot of fans and players extremely happy.

The lockouts not only affected the players but it also affected every person in the organization and the fans. The players and people in the organization were affected because they were not getting paid during this time which bothered a lot of people. Also the players and coaches lost a lot of valuable practice and meeting times which would help in the overall development of the team. Fans were affected more by the NBA lockout than the NFL lockout because the NFL lockout ended right before the season was suppose to start so they got to see all the games. But on the other hand the NBA lockout ended during the time in which the season was suppose to be going. So instead of fans getting to see 81 regular season games they was only able to see about 66 games. Hopefully there is not another lockout for either sports because both the NFL and NBA means so much to so many people.

Almost everyone knows who Sean Combs (puff daddy) is, and if you do not then you’ve been living in a box the last two decades. For you who do not know who Sean Combs is he is a hip hop mogul who has built an empire at bad boys records. He is one of the top producers, he has his own clothing line which was really popular in the early 2000′s which is Sean John. He also is the owner of one of the most popular alcohol beverages out right not called Ciroc. Im sure he has his hand in many other projects and is pulling in major amount of money.Mr. Combs is probably the richest person in hip hop with his net worth being approximately 500 million dollars.

Sean combs has a son named Justin Combs who was recently awarded a football scholarship to play for the UCLA bruins. Recent reports have shown that many Californians are upset because of this. They believe that because his father is so rich that his sons scholarship should be revoked and his father should pay for him to attend UCLA. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I believe that stripping the kid of his scholarship because his dad is wealthy is ridiculous.

Every school throughout the nation has a limited amount of scholarships that they can hand out each year. The players they hand the scholarships to are the best players that they can find. For a player to be given a scholarship regardless of sport he or she has to put in countless amount of work. Obviously Justin Combs was a good enough athlete that the school offered him a scholarship, and nobody has the right to take what he earned away regardless of who his father is or how much money he makes. For those Californians and whoever else is upset by it, get over it because the kid deserved what was given to him. Leave the kid alone his father worked for the money he made, and the son earned his scholarship by performing both in school and on the field.

Yeh thats right, the topic of college football having a playoff is seriously being considered now. There are many coaches, announcers, fans, and players who believe that having a playoff system would be beneficial for college football, while there are others who believe the current system is the best way to go. The topic of college football having a playoff system has been buzzing for quite some time now but has not been taken seriously until recently.

Last years national title game consisted of the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The match up was amazing and to me they were hands down the best two teams in the nation. What many people do not like is the fact that Alabama and LSU played each other five weeks before the title game and LSU ended up winning the game, but Alabama still earned a spot to play in the national championship. There were many people who thought that this was not right, especially because Alabama did not play in their conference championship.

After the bowl selection committee announced that there would be a rematch between Alabama and LSU in the national championship many coaches and fans throughout the nation spoke out. Some believed that the BCS system is wrong and favors certain schools, which is why many people and schools have vouched for a playoff system. The Alabama situation has not been the only reason why many think the playoff system should be put in place, the same type of scenario occurred in the early two thousands. Personally I am biased towards the current BCS system. This is probably because this is all i have known college football to do and I do not know the details of the playoff system. What do you think about college football implementing a playoff system?

For all you college football fans kickoff is just over 3 months away! Teams throughout the nation have been putting in countless ours of work with the bulk of the work still ahead. Most recruits from the 2012 class just graduated high school and are awaiting their arrival to their respected schools for fall camp. Fall camp is a chance for not just the incoming recruiting class to show the coaches what they have but also for the returning players. Fall camp is a month long process in which teams spend most of their day together either practicing, watching film, lifting weights or eating. This month is a vital time for all teams because they are preparing for the upcoming season, and with limited time they have to install everything and be ready for their first game.

Most schools have practices that are open to the public so that fans and the media can access how much the team is progressing. On the contrary some schools do not like having public practices and choose to make their practices private, having no meadia or fans. One example in which a school had a private practice that I remember occurred last year when Alabama. Many people disliked the fact that the practices were private but I guess it worked because Alabama won the national championship last year. Fans get ready! The season is right around the corner so make sure you go out get your teams gear and support them as much as possible. Go Beavs!!

Thursday night for the average person is just another normal night during the week. Most people have to wake up and go to work, and for grammar school students they have to wake up and attend school the next day. But for the college community/ students Thursdays has its own special meaning. Usually people classify Friday as being the day in which their weekend begins, but for most college students Thursdays marks the day in which the weekend begins. Most college students do not take classes on Fridays, and if they do many do not attend.

The college community calls Thursdays by its own special name “Thirsty Thursdays”! I do not know where the name came from or when it started but this name has been around the college community for quite some time now. I have older cousins who attended college and have told me that this name was still used while they were in school. Thirsty Thursdays marks the day in which many college students get drunk and either go out our hang out with their friends. I am guessing that because of the heavy drinking that occurs on Thursdays is the reason why the day is called “Thirsty Thursdays”.

If you are a college student and do not go out on Thursdays, try taking a drive or walk around your school and see how many people you see dressed up and ready to go out. Last night was “Thirsty Thursday” and I decided to take a cruise around Corvallis to see just how many people are out. I found that there were a good amount of people out either walking around or at bars/clubs. The term”Thirsty Thursdays” is a funny term but is perfect for the activities that occur.

If you love to laugh and have not seen the show “Martin” you are missing out. This show is one of my favorite shows off all time. The main actor of the show is Martin Lawrence, who is extremely funny. I know that most people have seen the show “Fresh Prince Of Bel Air” and if you think that show was funny you should definitely check out Martin.

There are six main characters in the show which are Martin, his girlfriend Gina, and there three friends Cole, Tommy, Pam, and Shanana ( who is also played by Martin). Cole, and Tommy are Martin’s best friends, while Pam is Gina’s best friend. In every episode of the show you would catch Martin and Pam going at each others throat. Pam constantly makes jokes at Martin regarding his height (sense he is really short), and Martin makes all sorts of different jokes about Pam. To me the best part of the show is when Pam and Martin go at it. It is hilarious, I laugh so much that I am literally almost in tears!

I know that many shows have story lines but I did not pick up any clear cut story line to this show. You can find this show on TV1, or you can buy the dvd series online via Amazon, Walmart, or at stores like Blockbuster. Once again, if you are reading this blog I recommend you either check the series out on television, or buy it because it is extremely funny and if you do not feel the same as I do please leave me a comment telling me why.
