Biggest lesson

After having gone through the whole course and reflecting on the material that really stuck with me, I’m reminded of last week’s article that was on Steve Jobs from 2005 in the Stanford commencement speech. This is the most impactful listen to me because of the importance of trusting the journey. Even when things aren’t clear, jobs emphasize “you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking back,“highlighting the value of intently, pursuing one’s passions and trusting the experiences we have will eventually lead to a meaningful story.

Job jobs brought out his points by recounting his decision to drop out of college, which led him to audit a calligraphy class. At the time it seemed very impractical, but it later influenced the Macintosh topography. Setting a new standard for personal computers. This story really highlights the idea of following one’s interests. Even if there isn’t a clear end goal, this can lead to significant contributions in the future.

Another beneficial lesson from jobs. Speech is a concept of embracing setbacks as opportunities. After he was booted from Apple, the company that he founded, jobs describe this period as a time of renewal. He went on later to make NeXT and Pixar. Ventures that he said, enriched his personal and his professional life. This shows the adversity conserved as a catalyst for reinventing and getting into new creative spaces. He also spoke candidly about his confrontation with his diagnosis of cancer. One thing he said is that your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life and this perspective really does encourage me to live authentically and make both decisions that really benefit me. To do the things that I think truly matter.

For my future career, these lessons are very valuable to me. They remind me to pursue the work that really aligns with my passions, interview challenges, opportunities to come back even stronger and to live intentionally. There were a lot of lessons that I learned in this course, but this article in particular was really impactful to me. I tend to lean on the things that are logical and not always follow the things that are emotional. But turns out they can be both.Embracing uncertainty isn’t easy but jobs pointed out how it can lead to profound personal and professional development. These are things that I will keep in mind as I go forward and I’m sure that they will impact my career forever.

To sum it all up,  Jobs said stay hungry and stay foolish. This to me serves as a reminder to be me, to take risks, to be curious and to trust that the journey will take me where I need to be.
