Final Blog Post

The skills I learned in this class were about blog posting and using the canvas discussion board. I was also unaware of the resources OSU had to offer. Learning all this will help me in my future classes!

New concepts I’ve learned were during the discussions. I learned a lot about women in the tech workforce and what they face. I also learned about many great women who’ve accomplished a lot in their lifetime. It makes me feel like I can do the same.

I’m unsure if I will continue my blog or keep this one active. But as far as using screenshots, PDF files, and spreadsheets I will continue to use those academically and during my career. I learned a lot about what icons on the discussion do what action. I avoided using any of those in previous classes because of a fear I would post something by accident and be graded on it.

Thank you for your time and dedication!

Take care.

Blog challenges and Gender Lens progress

Hello fellow bloggers and readers!

During this week I worked on the Gender Lens project. The topic is Bluetooth. The issues I ran into is the “social aspect” of the project. I’m currently looking for creditable sources that I can incorporate in my project. What I’ve learned while doing this project is keeping the sources I use to insure I can cite what I’ve learned or quote. I have used the different web pages tip and having both side by side to easily view. But it’s not so easy to read since my computer’s screen is quite small. I try to zoom into the page and sometimes the format compiles and adjusts so I don’t have to scroll the bottom. While other times it increases the amount of scrolling I need to do and become time consuming.

Thank you and take care!

Beginning Gender Lens project research

Hello fellow readers!

My research was mainly done on Bluetooth. I’m unsure if the topic is taken since I chose it over the weekend and maybe someone else did first. If not I did look into other topics I was interested in such as the DragonBox app and the Lammily doll. I’m interested in all of them but I think I may find better research about Bluetooth technology.

I contacted a Librarian and am awaiting a response. The design and prototyping section is developing well for the Bluetooth and Lamilly topic. I’m looking forward to seeing how they have affected our culture. I think all of them have an effect on today’s culture.

Blog a recap and look ahead in a new Post

Hello everyone,

Optimizing my images to my Cultural Research project was interesting but easy to do. I had issues editing the caption after they were in the blog post.

I didn’t use Legos often as a child. They would seem to always get lost. But lately I’ve been rediscovering Legos through my children. They enjoy playing with them yet we still run into the same issue of losing them. It’s interesting to build with them and realize what can be build with them from other people’s creations.

Adding an RSS widget for Gender & Technology News!

Hello fellow bloggers and readers!

I made an RSS widget for Gender & Technology News! It was a somewhat confusing task but I was able to do it. I went to Google News and added “Gender Technology” news category. I then clicked on the news category under my news section to get to the RSS to get the link for the RSS widget.

Think this news category would help me in the future to find sources for my WGSS class. I did learn a few things from headlines featured. Such as the sexism that exists in Silicon Valley and ASU launching a center for gender equity in science & tech to empower women of color in STEM.

Take care! And talk to you next time.

Week 2 second blog post!

Hello fellow bloggers and readers!

This is my second blog post. I’ve set up a theme and categories for my future posts. The instructions during this week’s module were clear and straightforward on what’s expected for this blog. It took me longer get my widgets up since I had a tough time picking what ones I would like to add after the required ones. I now look forward to setting up the RSS link!

Take care! And talk to you next time.

First Blog Post!

Hello fellow bloggers and readers!

Welcome to my blog. My name is Rebecca Diaz and I am an OSU student. This is my first experience setting up a blog and it’s been simple so far. Module tutorials have helped me set this blog up. Setting up an email signature was nice because I would always forget to type my name and information but now I don’t have to worry about forgetting to do it. I don’t mind listening to the webpages with the text-to-speech function but some words sound a little odd. It makes reading easier but I do like to follow along with what’s being read.

Take care! And talk to you next time.
