Gene machines + steam punk = gene punk?

A work in progress …

Genres of art and fiction help define the days of our lives.  Somehow we all have within us some trace of the glitter of the twenties.  The neon signs of the fifties are among our prized collectables.  Remember the sixties?  Remember the eighties?  Which TV shows did you watch in the nineties?  It is easy to spot elements of today’s cell phone era in the latest music, film and 3D art.

Or that the first depictions of protein molecules often had that atomic age advanced utilitarian look?

Or a West Side Story edge?

Does concept art help to shape our scientific concepts?  Might there be connections between our recent movie intake and how we visualize biological molecules?
