The health and wellness event that challenges you to set a goal, strive for balance, and Power Up!

Open to everyone eligible for an ONID address, the Power Up Challenge provides an opportunity to actively seek health, wellness, and balance by setting individual goals and tracking positive health behaviors during winter and spring terms. Gain inspiration from 2 teams of 8 featured challengers as they pursue their own goals and work as a team to come out on top. Learn about health and wellness resources available to you as a member of the OSU community. Use our online tracking system to monitor your own progress engaging in specific health and wellness habits and make use of OSU’s fabulous health and wellness resources as you go. Watch for events, presentations, prizes, and team challenges!

Power equals work over time, so join us in putting in some serious work and reaping the powerful rewards!

The Details

Timeline: January 11th 2010-May 23rd, 2010

Levels of Participation:  Featured Challengers join with a team and inspire us by blogging about their experience.

You can pick your level of participation.

  • Follow the challenger blogs and let them inspire you.
  • Attend presentations and events open to the entire campus.
  • Set your own goal and track your own healthy habits.

Of course, you could do all three!

Your Goals: Each participant has the opportunity to set 2 goals.  Health and Wellness cover a broad spectrum of concepts and habits, so consider all areas of wellness when you set your goals: Physical, Occupational, Intellectual, Social, Spiritual, Emotional, and Environmental.  Make sure your goals are SMART and safe.  Do some research and make sure the goal your setting can be safely achieved in the time period available.

Tracking system: The tracking system is essential to the Power Up Challenge and can be accessed through the blackboard page.  Each week (Monday through Sunday) you will have the opportunity to earn points for core healthy behaviors and some habits that are featured for that week’s them.  Scores for the previous week must be logged by 5pm on Mondays and score updates will be posted by noon on Tuesdays.  Access the tracking system by signing up for the event through blackboard.  Click the sign up tab on this page and follow the instructions.

Individuals: You can participate as an individual if you like. Individual scores will not be reported publicly unless you request that they be reported.  You can make that request through an established forum on the blackboard page.

Teams: You can also participate in the Power Up Challenge as part of a team.  Teams will consist of 2-10 individuals and scores will be publicly reported as an average per person.  Team captains should start a team thread on the designated forum on the blackboard page.  All team members should declare their affiliation with a team within that team’s forum thread.  If you are open to having anyone on your team, you can establish a team thread on blackboard with the team name followed by (open team) so others know they can join.  Please see the forum instructions for more details.

Events and Presentations: Throughout the Challenge there will be events or challenges and presentations.  All events and presentations will address health and wellness topics.  Feel free to join!  A list of events will be posted soon.
