Brotherhood Chapter Highlights Portland Brothers Recruitment

FALLing for PDC & Pharmacy

Current Brothers and potential candidates at PDC’s Boba Time recruitment event to get a sweet treat while casually learning all about what it means to join PDC!

Cha Cha Cha-ing into several reasons why to love PDC & Pharmacy.

October has been one busy month for the Beta Iota Brothers for PDC. From recruitment to running fall-themed fundraising, service, and social events in between–it’s unbelievable how the Brothers are able to balance this all while also dedicating time to their pharmacy careers. It must be a coincidence then that October is also American Pharmacists Month in recognition of all the pharmacists, pharmacy teams, and student pharmacists for the special role they play in bettering the health and wellbeing of society. Additionally, the week of October 17th-22nd is National Pharmacy Week, so it’s only right that we make a post to acknowledge some of the hard work and fun events the chapter has had so far for PDC to remind us of the reasons to love the Brotherhood that is PDC; and also what it means to be Leaders in Pharmacy.

From L-R: WMA Hannah, Dr. Morley, Dr. Starwalt, and WCC Alena are happy to be involved with PDC!

The Beta Iota chapter had a successful recruitment season with events that ran for the first two weeks of the month of October. Our WMA and WIG, Hannah Allen and Tiffany Ong planned events that included both in-person and Zoom events to recruit potential Brothers across all platforms. The events included a fun Virtual Game Night playing Gartic Phone; meeting our Worthy Officers and committee officers; getting the tea at Bobahead; and finally enjoying some savory pizza and insights into the growth of PDC through the perspective of our alumni and advisors: Dr. Shannon Starwalt and Dr. Susan Morley. Last Thursday, thanks to our well rounded turnout to each event, Beta Iota was able to vote to send bids out to nearly 21 potential candidates! Thank you to the hard work of our recruitment team and we greatly appreciate everyone who took the time to give PDC a chance to be an option as a way to expand your experiences while pursuing a profession in pharmacy!

While recruitment was the main event that shaped the fall term for the chapter, in between there are also our committee heads hard at work planning for fun opportunities for Brothers to be involved with the Brotherhood and their community. Newly elected Fundraising Committee Head, Suzie Cha, is providing a treat this spooky season by offering Boo-grams as one of our first fundraising events! These Rx-themed Boo-grams will also have additional study tips in collaboration with Scholarship Committee, headed by Makenna Wong, and a fun Halloween customizable message by the sender to get through a frightful exam season! Additionally, PDC is continuing our Trick or Treat for Canned Goods that is run by our Service Committee, which is headed by Jacqueline Boechler. This annual service event seeks out donations of canned goods from local neighborhoods in Corvallis to give to the community pantry at OSU for those who are experiencing food insecurity. The service event is anticipating to receive donations by October 28th.

Does Beta Iota ever take a break from all the amazing work they’re doing for PDC? If there’s anything that’ll get them out of the pharmacy building, it’s a day out with their Brothers to remind them of the meaning of Brotherhood. We’re highlighting our Portland Brothers that recently went out to Cha Cha Cha to enjoy a nice evening together with good food and even better company! Despite the distance between Corvallis and Portland Brothers, the saying becomes true that distance makes the heart grow fonder. We hope for another reunion with the two cohorts in the near future of this school year, and be able to share the goals and achievements that our Brothers are achieving and have yet to achieve as they continue their professional career journey!

This is just the beginning for the Beta Iota chapter of PDC, and there’s still a long awaiting school year ahead of us! The dedication, hard work, and humbleness that our Brothers display are just a few of the characteristics to appreciate how they represent PDC and the profession of pharmacy to our society. We thank and appreciate all the pharmacists and future pharmacists that are working hard to use their leadership to bring out the better in our world through the field of health care!
