It’s Thursday, time for a Tech Tip!
Have your heard of Umbrella? No, it’s not the raingear that can be seen around campus 9 months out of the year. And no, not that Rhianna cut from a few years back.
Umbrella is the remote desktop server that Student Computing Facilities (SCF) provides for ONID users to connect to a virtual computer from anywhere. It’s super handy for those times when you can’t make it to a campus computer lab, or for those days when you could make it to campus but would rather stay at home in your PJs. All Windows machines come with a remote desktop client (RDC) install; it’s in the accessory folder. Sorry Macs: a client needs to be downloaded and installed for your machines, but the good news is that the program is easy to install. Check out the SCF Page for more info on the server or stop by the Walk-Up for the rundown!
More info on Umbrella can be found at http://oregonstate.edu/is/mediaservices/scf/virtual-lab
RDC Computer Name: umbrella.scf.oregonstate.edu
And just for fun: Rhianna’s Umbrella (ella, eh, eh)

Nice tip thanks
