GRADx Event 2019

Inspired by TED Talks and the Inspiration Dissemination radio show, GRADx talks explores ideas in action. At this event, OSU graduate students will share the questions and motivations framing their research in an 8 to 10-minute engaging format. Presenters are challenged to reach beyond an academic audience and provoke conversations that matter. Visit the GRADx website to learn more and see the list of presenters. This event is taking place TODAY February 28 from 4-6pm in the LaSells Stewart Center.

National Nutrition Month Events by the OSU Nutrition and Dietetics Club

The OSU Nutrition and Dietetics Club is putting on several events for National Nutrition Month in March 2019! From February 27 to March 6, there will be a scavenger hunt including 3 clues at 3 different locations. Those who find all three clues will be entered into a drawing for a BELLA Personal Size Rocket Blender! See this link to submit your code words and learn more. On Wednesday, March 6, Campus Registered Dietician, Amy Fraizer, will be speaking in honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week at 5pm in Linus Pauling 125. On Thursday, March 6, food, hot drinks, games, prizes, a photobooth and more will be available in the SEC Plaza from 11am-3pm to celebrate National Nutrition Month. KidSpirit is now hiring students in all majors and with all levels of experience for a variety of positions at the KidSpirit Summer Day Camp from June 17th – August 30th. Positions include camp counselors, office administration and head instructors for sports & physical education, art, science, archery, gymnastics, culinary arts & nutrition and much more. Society of Healthcare Executives and Society of Healthcare Administrators Officer Elections

The Society of Healthcare Executives and Society of Healthcare Administrators will be hosting officer elections for the 2019-2020 academic year during their meeting next Monday, March 4th, at 4pm in Waldo 400. The available positions are President, Vice President, Communications, Treasurer, and Public Relations. Zach Fogg and Jordan Turner from Marquis Companies will begin the meeting with a presentation about the Marquis internship program. The presentation will be followed by officer elections. If you are interested in running for a position, please complete the Candidate Information Form attached below. Email the completed form to Taylor Fleming, and be prepared to give a ~2 minute speech and answer questions asked by the current officers.

Traipsin’ Global on Wheels Events

Traipsin’ Global on Wheels (TGOW) was established in August 2018 by Ming Michelle Canaday. TGOW was created as a space where individuals with disabilities know how to access information and inquire about fitness. TGOW cultivates a group of healthy, worldly, and informed advocates that will accept, and perhaps even embrace their disability, and advocate for equity and justice for people with various disabilities. This event will be co-presented by the Hattie Redmond Women & Gender Center – Oregon State University with the support of Disability Access Services (DAS), Center for Civic Engagement – Oregon State University (CCE) and the President’s Commission on the Status of Women as co-sponsors. The event is a part of International Women’s Day and Womxn’s Herstory Month. There will be two sessions for this event. The first session will be held Thursday, March 7th, 5:00-7:00 pm  in SEC 112. There will be refreshments and a presentation aimed at discussing travel, accessible design, fitness, and how TGOW was started. The second session (RSVP Required) will be held the next day, Friday, March 8th, 12:00-2:00 pm in the APCC Gathering Hall. Northwest Collegiate Biomedical Ethics Conference at OSU

The OSU Bioethics Society invites faculty and students to participate in the first annual Northwest Collegiate Biomedical Ethics Conference on April 27, 2019 from 8:30am-1:30pm in the OSU Memorial Union. The conference will focus on discussions exploring biomedical ethics, with an emphasis on topics raised by student speakers. This call invites individuals interested in presenting a paper, poster or presentation related to biomedical ethics. Submissions are invited on ethical issues in all fields related to biomedical ethics including medicine, science, technology, government, law, and religion as well as interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary issues that cut across professions such as biomedical, public health, and research. Lunch will be provided during the conference! Interested in presenting your research? Submit your abstract (200 word limit) here by March 17th at 5pm. Moore Family Center Healthy Community Outreach Fellows Program

The Moore Family Center and OSU Extension invites all CPHHS students for an information session to learn more about paid fellowship opportunities and other community-based internships available with OSU Extension faculty around the state. The information session will take place on Tuesday, March 12 at 4:30pm in the CH2M Hill Alumni Center, Ballroom C. Volunteer Opportunity at the Muscular Dystrophy Association 2019 Summer Camp

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is looking for volunteers at MDA Summer Camps this summer! Sign up to be an MDA Summer Camp volunteer counselor or medical staff team member and help improve the lives of kids in their community who have muscular dystrophy and related diseases that severely limit muscle strength and mobility. Volunteer counselors must be at least 18 years of age, and must be able to attend the entire camp from July 13-19, 2019. Kinesiology Experiential Learning Site Visits

This spring, join fellow Kinesiology students and Kinesiology Experiential Learning Coordinator, Slade Thackeray, to visit Kinesiology experiential learning sites in the Corvallis and Beaverton areas. These site visits are great ways to learn about your interests, talents, and what sites would fit you well for internships and practicum experience. Potential site visits include personal trainers, clinics, and other sites that encourage wellness. Interested? Beaver Basics Workshop and Consultation Sessions

Beaver Basics peer trainers offer OSU students help with Office 365 and Google productivity tools such as Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides, and Word/Docs. Short workshops (5-7 minutes) and one-to-one consultations are available in the Valley Library through Spring term. Peer trainers will also help students access and download applications from Office 365. All workshop and consultation sessions are drop-in (no registration required). New Nutrition Course Offering for Spring 2019

NUTR 299: Applications in Food & Nutrition: Healthy Meals (CRN: 60053) is now being offered for Spring 2019! This class will focus on applying healthy eating guidelines and meal planning techniques to every day life through hands-on learning activities. If you want to talk about food, learn about meal planning, and practice preparing and eating healthy meals and snacks, this class is for you! Prerequisites for this course are: HHS 231, NUTR 225 or NUTR 240. The course will meet every Thursday from 2-3:50pm. Questions? Contact Clinical Assistant Professor Jenny Jackson.

OSU Retirement Association Scholarship

The OSU Retirement Association provides scholarship support to undergraduate students at Oregon State University who are pursuing a course of study that may lead to a career promoting healthy aging. That term includes all aspects of “health” — physical, emotional, social or financial. Currently enrolled OSU undergraduate students who have completed at least one academic year at OSU, have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above, and have at least one year of study remaining towards their first bachelor’s (BA or BS) degree, are encouraged to apply. The scholarship amount may be up to $2,000 per person and will be awarded at the OSURA Annual Meeting in May. Funds will be distributed into student accounts for the 2019-2020 academic year. Job Opportunity through OSU Precollege Programs

OSU Precollege programs is looking to fill 12 positions (3 hours a week during spring term and 40 hours per week during summer camps) for the iINVENT middle school summer camps. Camp instructors will run day camps and work with youth, parents, families, and community partners to support Invention Education as they travel throughout Oregon all summer. Youth will be challenged to apply science, technology, math, and engineering concepts to create inventions to meet specific user needs over the course of the camp. Examples of camp activities include Edison Robots, making Windmills, making solar/Kinect carts, creating circuits, and invention themed design challenges. Summer camps will be held at schools, boys and girls clubs, and/or community centers.  Lodging, transportation, and food stipends, if required, will be provided. CPHHS Undergraduate Student Council

The CPHHS Undergraduate Student Council (USC) is a group of undergraduate student representatives from within the College who serve as peer representatives to the administrative body of the college.

The undergraduate student council advises the Dean and Associate Deans on issues regarding the college’s undergraduate student body, and works to share information pertaining to the College’s mission, vision and values to undergraduate students.
