Making the MOST of CONNECT

Posted September 6th, 2013 by mayersl

Now that START is done and once you get settled into your new residence, whether it be on campus or off, now is when CONNECT begins. CONNECT is September 26-29, four full days or opportunities for you to CONNECTed and prepared to begin your career at Oregon State University. You can learn more about how to be successful both inside and outside the classroom. It is also a time to learn about some OSU traditions and what it means to be a valued member in our community. There will be a lot going on during CONNECT and it is only as good as you make it.

To help guide you, here are some tips for making the most out of your CONNECT experience:

Be willing to step out of your comfort zone. This may mean joining some new people for a meal, or asking a suite mate to join you for an event, but there is one thing everyone has in common – you are all new students. Don’t wait for people to ask you to join them, be the leader and ask people to join you.

Attend a much as possible and stay for at least 45 minutes. Most events offered during CONNECT are come and go, which makes it that much easier to pop in and out. We challenge you to stay for at least 45 minutes. Why 45 minutes? Because 45 minutes allows you to participate in one activity, talk with at least 3 people and really get to know what the sponsoring departments/organizations purpose for the event/workshop.

Look ahead and stay in the loop. The CONNECT schedule is posted now and feel free to start browsing events and figuring out where you want to go. Also, connect to the OSU New Students Facebook Page and follow CONNECT on Twitter so that you get up to date information on what is happening during those 4 days.

If you follow these 3 simple steps, then you will have a successful and fun CONNECT experience and be fully prepared to start your OSU career off on the right foot.
