What Can Career Services Do for Me?  January 18th, 2011

A first-year and transfer student welcome reception

Date: Wednesday, January 26th, 5:00-6:00pm

Location: Career Services (Basement of Kerr Administration Building—B008)

Students who attend will learn more about what Career Services offers, and how they can best utilize our services from their first year and beyond.  This is a great opportunity to begin thinking about career goals, as well as how to best prepare for the job/internship/grad school search down the line.


Empower – Transitions to OSU  January 12th, 2011

Intercultural Student Services invites first year and transfer students to the 2011 Empower Workshop. This workshop is designed to give first year and transfer students an opportunity to learn about gender identity issues, student involvement opportunities and to gain a better understanding of diversity. The students will also be able to meet others and to promote student success.

The workshop will be on Saturday January 29, 2011 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The event will be held at the Corvallis Chinitimini Senior Center (2601 Northwest Tyler Avenue). Transportation to and from campus as well as breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.

The event is free but the space is limited, please register soon to secure a place. The deadline is Friday, January 21st by 5:00pm. Response by the deadline is not mandatory but it is appreciate d in order to accommodate for meals and transportation.

The workshops will include the following:

1. Finding our Way: How Gender Impacts our Daily Lives

2. New to OSU?   Learn about the many opportunities at OSU to enhance your student experience

3. Understanding diversity within different groups and self

START and U-Engage Peer Leader Applications Available!  January 6th, 2011

If anyone is interested in applying for a position as a START leader or a U-Engage peer leader for 2011, you can apply online at www.oregonstate.edu/newstudents.

START Leader

START Leaders work throughout the summer assisting with OSU’s orientation, advising, and registration program: START.  START Leaders also will have the opportunity to participate in CONNECT Week programs. START Leaders are required to participate in a Spring Quarter training course. This position is a paid position, with pay beginning during the summer.

U-Engage Peer Leader

U-Engage Peer Leaders assist in the First-Year Experience course called U-ENGAGE. The U-Engage Leader position is not paid, but course credit will be given, U-Engage leaders are required to participate in a Spring Quarter training course. This position can also offer internship credit.

These opportunities will allow you to be involved with campus activities and build memories as you lead others. The deadline for applications is January 25, 2011. If you have any questions, please contact New Student Programs & Family Outreach!
