Wind Turbines and Evaporation

Wind turbines may increase the evaporation from irrigated fields by altering the turbulent transport of gasses from the land surface.  In this project, Landsat data are used to estimate evaporation for the last 30 years at some of the largest wind farms in the US.  One such wind farm is outlined here.  Using this technique, we can look back in time to see the how the evaporation has evolved from before wind farm installation to the present.  The analyses of these scenes will allow us to tease out any impact that wind turbines have had on the evaporation across the landscape.
