At the beginning of this experience I was a complete noob to the blogging world and wasn’t sure what to expect. I really like to write so as I got deeper into the blogosphere I started to wonder why I hadn’t given this a try before. It’s a perfect outlet for me to get what I want to say out to beyond just my circle of friends and acquaintances. This is something I will continue however I do not think I will keep it under the OSU server. I want to have a blog dedicated to what I love music, urban culture and sports. I knew that I am a decent writer to begin with but, what surprised me about each post I wrote that was personal it came out very fluid and relatable without having to really stop. Writing about something I am generally interested is natural easy for me I have realized. My style is that of a voice for the youth, I speak in slang and use strange words that don’t relate to the situation really but have an immediate meaning. I said it in my info and I will say it here I am proud to be a Differenter (not a typo). I put in a strong amount of effort into this class and my writing because it was something that I was genuinely interested in and had fun doing.

Kid Ink is another artist that has been around for over 3 years and is just now getting noticed. I picked this guy up in my freshman year at college with his track Wait For Me, which was a slow jam for sure. It got me hooked, he later dropped his first mixtape Crash Landing. However a thing many fans do not know is that he went under a different MC name, which was Rockstar. He changed it to Kid Ink to become more marketable. Ink has been off the radar for about 4 months finishing his debut EP Up and Away where he will be the only voice present on 13 tracks of what he calls his “most inner workings”. This album drops June 12th and I encourage you all to give it a listen, you will not be disappointed. He has a laid baid hip-hop vibe and rhymes about the good life, the hard times and the forgotten nights, something any 18-30 year old can relate to. His last works put on the internet was a free album, something many artists are doing in the age of media, called Wheels Up. Arguably his best work yet it featured the likes of: Travis Porter, Meek Mill, Bei Maejor, and more. The man has been on his grind and it’s a well deserved award for him to be named to the XXL: Freshman Class 2012. Ink said it best “Just turn up my music” download and enjoy.

I think people forget how good Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics really is. Growing up in the Seattle area I am a born and raised Seattle Sonics fan and am still bitter about them being stolen from me, but I digress. Being a Sonic fan I saw Ray Allen in his prime of his career in his stint in Seattle. The same guy that until two games ago was struggling to find his shot was someone I saw multiple times score 40 points in a game. This guys is still a dead eye and an absolute momentum killer. The guy still has veins of ice being a threat at any moment on the court. As of this series with the Heat Ray has slowly begun to pick back up his stroke and a Ray Allen that has his shot down in the playoffs is a danger to any team and could be the final key to propel the Celtics back to the NBA championship. Fans of the NBA really need to do their research about a player before they say he is washed up, Ray was also a slam dunk champ back in his days at Milwaukee. The man is Hall of Fame bound easy and don’t count out Mr. Reliable.

Travis Porter is lighting up my iPod with their first album From Day 1. Travvy as their fans refer to them as have teamed up with the likes of Mr. Ratchet himself YG, Mike Posner, Mac Miller and more on what I am sure is to be a very popular album. On the track list the three radio smashes Bring it back, Make it Rain and the recently released Ayy Ladies Ft. Tyga. Travis Porter consists of actually three band members Quez, Lakeem Ali, and Strap. This debut album has to secret gem songs waiting to break through your speakers. The first is That Feeling Ft. Mike Posner, with a upbeat party feel the song will be a guaranteed summer anthem for many as it speaks of living the dream with friends. The second is a club style song called Ride Like That Ft. Jeremih, Jeremih gives the hook on this song a catchy edge that could get anyone dancing out on the floor. Travis Porter was a king of the Mixtape game and have now made the next step to the mainstream and have made a strong impression I give this album a 8/10.

P.J. Simas is a 21 year old So – Cal up and coming Rapper attending Cal Poly. I went to a show of his last night and this man has some extremely gifted talents for music. What makes this story even more impressive is this guy shakes the rapper stereotype in a serious way. P.J. has a daughter with his current girlfriend, does his music thing and travels but most impressive is he is training to be a civil engineer and has a 3.7 grade point average giving hip-hop hope for the future that you don’t have to sacrifice education and clean cut life to do the music scene successfully. I was able to get some one on one time with artist yesterday after his show where he talked about his next step and his most current mixtape Triple Play he is a completely unique artist in his genre because he has an obsession with his guitar an incorporating it into almost all of his works having it play a major role in the productions. This is something not many Hip-Hop artists do.

The Ratchet movement is a revitalized form of West Coast music it is a on old dance vibe that had kind of died off as of late in many areas since the explosion of DubStep, Electro, and House music over the last couple of years. With the help of musical talents like YG, Tyga, Nipsey Hussle and many more DJ Mustard of the Pushaz Inc Label have been bringing out a dance scene in today’s clubs. In a recent interview with known hip-hop journalist Sway Mustard described Ratchet like this “Ratchet City is just a L.A. vibe. It can mean several things; a girl or boy getting around, or just having fun. It’s kind of like the Hotboys were, back in the days. They weren’t scared to have fun, and do what you want to do. It’s like we’re bringing back the West coast but with a new sound to it. We just are having fun. Everybody can be ratchet. You can bring ratchet out of the smartest girl” (The interview was found here: http://swaysuniverse.com/music-news-2/dj-mustard-talks-ratchet-movement). They are bringing the image of dance music and non violence to the club scene something that is desperately needed to be expressed in the night life scene especially to adolescents.

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the round pegs in square holes. The ones who see things differently, they are not fond of rules and have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them disagree with them glorify or vilify them but the one thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things they push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones we see genius because the ones who are crazy enough to think they change world are the ones who do.” This is The Differenter Creed, something that Travis Porter released as a part of one of their mixtapes. Daring to be different and follow your own path is what America is all about, the freedom to choose. Our originality is bottled up by societal standards that strike many into a fear of being who they truly are. Basically it is a life style choice of living a life that speaks who you are not what you think others want you to be and sometimes “You” is a little crazy, embrace the chaos and strive to change the world in the best way you can.

After game 3 of the Miami Heat VS. Indiana Pacers series I would say most people watching the playoffs thought the series was over and that the Miami Heat Experiment was a bust. Today we saw a side of LeBron James everyone has been waiting for this entire playoff series. LeBron finally took over a playoff game in the fourth quarter with the aid of Dwayne Wade. His performance was nothing short of amazing recording 40 points, 18 rebounds, and 9 assists nearly a triple double in the Heats game 4 win over Indiana. LeBron physically dominated the Pacers after, Roy Hibbert Indiana Center, received his fourth foul early in the fourth quarter. Without that large shot blocker presence the Pacers were forced to go with a smaller line up and we match for the size, speed and strength of LeBron James. On an even brighter note for the heat Dwayne Wades’ abysmal game three performance was over shadowed by his 20 point explosion in the second half of today’s game. I think it is safe to say that this will be a game 7 series and the Heat are refusing to go quietly, I cannot wait to see what this series has to show in the next 3 possible games

1. Chris Brown is hands down my favorite artist in the music game. I have every CD and song he has put out now I am just waiting for him to tour in the North West. He covers all spectrums of genres with his work, recently his work has stretched in to the house music and rap genres which has really shown his talent as a true artist. He has a new CD coming out Named Fortune which drops June 3rd be sure to go out and not be a pirate for once and buy this EP. My favorite Chris Brown joint hands down is G-Sh**(http://youtu.be/49nai31O2ik) featuring Tyga from their tandem Fan of A Fan mixtape.

2. Kid Ink has been an underground favorite of mine for the last 4 years and he is finally starting to blow up in a big way. He was recently named to XXL’s Freshman class, this years class was speculated by many as questionable. June 13th Ink drops his highly anticipated Up And Away EP I personally will be at the store at 7:30 AM looking for this and it looks to be a Summer anthem. My Favorite song from Ink is Here We Go (http://youtu.be/DXwwSh9Copo) from the Wheels Up Mixtape.

3. Travis Porter is the inspiration behind my creation of the Ratchet City Movement. Travis Porter is always boomin’ in my trunk, they their first EP coming out on May 29, 2012 titled From Day 1. The trio has put out multiple mix tapes and has a huge internet following. This first CD is just the beginning of good things to come from Travvy in the coming years. My favorite track of theirs is Ride like That Featuring Jeremih (http://youtu.be/n6NVJtiU38M).

4. The Weekend – The Weeknd is something we have never heard before he has such a painful voice in every song and he just pulls you in. His 3 mixtapes and propelled him to near stardom. The Canada native. This is something I play with the windows down at night in the summer time. His work allows you to get completely lost in his music. His number on track for me is Wicked Games (http://youtu.be/o9PuAm7d0PA) off of his House of Balloons mixtape.

5. Bei Maejor is last on my list of My iPod Summer edition, with his release of his free album Upscale this spring has been a feel good favorite of mine for a few years now. He both produces and performs his music and is a pioneer of his own sound with a R&B-Electro type of style that is perfect for any kick back or drive in the summer. His tracks have ranged from the dubstep genre to alternative rock. My favorite track by Maejor is Something Else (http://youtu.be/9JKgvknGPY4) from the ThrowBack mixtape.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. San Antonio Spurs

This is the series I am excited for in the second round seeing as my Atlanta Hawks’ selfish play has seen them out of the playoffs in the first round although Jeff Teague went off he is my new favorite player of the NBA right now. The Clippers are a young run and gun team that is fast enough to run the aging Spurs to a game 7 type of series. I dont know if the Spurs Stars Duncan and Parker can fend off the high powered offense of Chris Paul aka CP3, Blake griffin though he is shaken up by a tender knee and the rest of the 100 point a game offense. The battle will be won at the point guard position Tony Parker is having a career year but when Chris Paul gets hot and he has been this playoffs I dont think Parker will be enough to stop CP3 from scoring 15 points, 10 assists, and 10 alley oops. Im hoping for a Clippers Lakers western conference final.
