One situation where I was using compensation as a motivating factor was at my last job. I was working as a server for the morning shift and got offered a bonus if I stayed to do a double. The bonus motivated me to stay for the double and put my full effort in. Normally while working I always try to do my best, however the compensation motivated me even more because I was instinctively thinking that if I do a thorough job then I might get offered something similar again in the future. I also wanted to prove to myself that I can finish my tasks quickly and well.
The compensation led me to work more efficiently and gave me more energy to get through the day. I believe that the bonus caused my motivation to increase because as a student, it can definitely be a struggle at times when it comes to paying bills and any chance where I can earn more than my usual wage at work, I will take, even if it means that I have to work a long day. Incentives can be really helpful in the workplace and in school, whether that be through actual compensation or something else.
