Human Resource Management

People First

Upon reviewing the top 100 companies to work for and “what employees say”, I recognized a strong focus on human capital. Employees are not viewed as numbers or a means to an end, but as valued contributors whose voices, well-being, and growth matter.

Accenture’s investment in continuous learning keeps its employees skilled, engaged, and ready for advancement. In 2024, 83% of employees reported feeling empowered. Their reputation for providing strong career pathways was supported in fiscal year 2024 by approximately 97,000 promotions. Their strong learning culture drives both engagement and internal mobility.

World Wide Technology’s people-centered culture emphasizes career development and work-life balance. Its employee development programs incorporate mentor-mentee relationships and clearly defined pathways to leadership, supporting long-term growth and engagement.

Delta Air Lines recognizes that its people fuel its success and focuses on employees as whole individuals, not just employees. By investing in employees’ financial, emotional, physical, and social well-being, Delta invests in the full employee experience. Delta’s skills-first approach and the elimination of unnecessary college degree requirements create more equitable growth opportunities while honoring employees as people, not just positions.

The type of manager I strive to be, should the opportunity present itself, is one who sees employees as whole individuals, not only as employees. Each person brings unique strengths, needs, and circumstances; effective leadership requires empathy and adaptability for each direct report. Removing barriers so people can do their best work and empowering them to own their work. When employees feel supported and trusted, engagement and motivation will follow.

Employee development is another core priority for me. Creating a culture of continuous improvement. While not everyone will share a growth mindset, my goal would be to attract and retain individuals who are motivated to learn and grow.

I foresee one of the greatest challenges of management is adapting leadership styles to support individual needs. However, when leaders put people first, they create environments where both employees and organizations can thrive.
