Mint Pests

The Mint Pest Alert Newsletter keeps growers and field reps informed about insect pest activity in mint fields throughout Oregon. Reports are organized by region and usually focus on two main pests – Variegated Cutworm (VCW) and Mint Root Borer (MRB). It should be noted that a wide variety of other insect pests can affect peppermint and spearmint, more information is available in the PNW Insect Management Handbook.

Insects are not the only concern for mint growers. Weed pressure in these crops can be substantial. This informative brochure: Weed Management in Mint offers pictures and profiles of 36 common weeds along with some options for control. Remember, the PNW Weed Management Handbook should be considered the most up-to-date resource for those struggling with weed control in mint production fields.
