Best Companies to Work For HR Practices

The online website Fortune released a list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” This blog will go over some of these companies, and highlight specific practices in their management that make them one of the best companies to work for.

Hilton (#1)

The Hilton is the number 1 rated company according to the article. Lets read what one of the employees had to say:

“I love how I don’t feel like just a number here. I am a strong believer that Hilton cares about their employees just like they care about their family and I am truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to work for such an amazing company.”

The HR practices of the Hilton seems to be forming a sense of family, where employees feel cared about. Appealing to the emotions of the workers is important in any sense, and this company does a good job of it.

Power Home Remodeling (#50)

Power Home Remodeling is the Number 50 company on the list, which seems to have a slightly different approach then the Number 1 company. Their employee said this:

“You are provided everything you need to be successful in the position and surrounded by people willing to help.”

This company, while also appealing to their employees emotions, instead seems to take a give-give approach. This means that all employees are given the resources they need to succeed, and they will have a good experience if they use these resources effectively. Essentially, work hard and get rewarded.

Farmers Insurance (#97)

Farmers Insurance falls into the Number 97 spot on the list, and according to the employees, they also seem to use a slightly different strategy then other previously mentioned companies:

“Telecommuting has made my work/life balance so great. Even though I work from home, there are many opportunities presented to me to grow my career. I am given extra opportunities often that help me to feel connected to my peers & supervisors.”

It seems as though Farmers Insurance provides opportunities in which their employees will have a high sense of comfort, allowing them to do their jobs with ease. Essentially, similar to Number 1, pleasing their employees emotionally so that they are able to succeed.

Managing Aspects

In my opinion, one of the most challenging parts of a manager’s job is being able to balance leadership, decision making, and employee relationships. Managers must make difficult decisions in certain situations and are required to motivate their employees while also making tough choices that can sway personal opinions. Managing a plethora of personalities, opinions and ensuring clear communication between employees at all levels is very challenging.

Managers need to find a good balance between being strict while also making sure their employees are of good mental and physical health.
