Men’s Development and Engagement, in partnership with many offices across campus are excited to announce Oregon State University’s first Healthy Masculinity Conference. This year’s theme is: “Exploring Masculinities”
The Healthy Masculinity Conference will provide an opportunity for the OSU & Corvallis community to begin engaging in dialogue about healthy masculinities and how healthy representations of masculinity make our campus and community safer and more habitable. We believe that offering alternative representations to negative masculinities is key to making this change. We hope to make this year’s conference a pilot project. In the future, we hope that this conference can be an Annual/Bi-Annual event.
Our Keynote, Carlos Andres Gomez, is a well-known actor, spoken-word artist, and poet who recently wrote a book, ”Man Up: Cracking the Code of Modern Manhood” and will discuss masculinity in various different ways and address the ways that multiple identities intersect with masculinity in the U.S.
Our Sub-Themes and Conference Tracks will be:
“Re-conceptualizing Masculinities: Man-ifesting Change”
“The Socialization & Performance of Masculinity”
“Masculinity at the Intersections”
“Masculinity & Social Justice”
