When I was deciding on what companies to pick from the fortune 100 best companies to work for, I decided I would just look at the top three companies on the list so I could get my information from the best of the best.
The top three companies were Hilton as number one, Ultimate Software as number two, and Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. as number three. The first thing I noticed when I started to compare the three different employee comments was each one included the word care. This shows that employees want to feel like they are wanted and cared for by their employer and not just another number on a spreadsheet.
When I think of what kind of manager I want to be the first thing that comes to mind is one that makes their employees feel like they are taken care of. In a company there is normally a hierarchy of jobs but each person in the company cannot get their job done alone. For example, in construction a project manager is a high level position on a jobsite, but they cannot do their job well if they don’t have great workers in the field getting the work done. I believe to be a good manager you have to make workers see and feel their importance, which leads to higher productivity and job satisfaction.
The most challenging part of managing is finding ways to manage all different kinds of people. No 1 person is the same, and that means some people react well to one managerial strategy while others do not. Finding ways to manage everyone can take a lot of time and practice but it leads to an efficient team.
