Good training vs. Bad training

A training that I found beneficial to me was the training that I received while I was in the Navy that allowed me to do my in the Navy but also laid the foundation for skills that have led to employment outside of the military. The training was technical training that was essential to perform my job safely and effectively in the Navy. The training was broken down into weekly sections that started off with learning theory in the beginning of the week, hands on training in the middle of the week, and then evaluating our progress with a lab and test at the end of the week. What made this training beneficial for me was that it helped me learn how to troubleshoot electronic systems and it also taught me how to utilize technical manuals during the troubleshooting process. This training helped me after the Navy become a limited energy electrician without having to complete the required trade school.

A training that I did not find beneficial was the training that I received at the beginning of my time in the Navy. It was the first school in my pipeline that I went to after boot camp. The purpose of this training was to familiarize sailors with electronic components and electrical theory. What made this training non-beneficial was the fact that a lot of the training used broken components so that you never felt that you were learning things correctly. An example is that you would take a reading on a circuit card and submit the answer in the training program. Even though you took the reading correctly, the card was potentially damaged and thus gave you the wrong reading and the program would penalize you. The environment was stressful due to the constant threats of being dropped from training.
