EbscoHost has purchased the ABC-Clio databases America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts. These databases are now available on the Ebsco platform. They will continue to be available on the ABC-Clio platform until December 31, 2007.

America: History & Life is the definitive index of literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. With indexing for 1,700 journals from 1964 to present, this database is the most important bibliographic reference tool for students and scholars of U.S. and Canadian history. Strong English-language journal coverage is balanced by an international perspective on topics and events, including abstracts in English of articles published in more than 40 languages. It is currently available on the ABC-Clio and Ebsco platforms.

Historical Abstracts is an exceptional resource that covers the history of the world (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to the present, including world history, military history, women’s history, history of education, and more – essential for libraries supporting upper-division and graduate research. This authoritative database provides indexing of more than 1,700 academic historical journals in over 40 languages back to 1955. It is currently available on the ABC-Clio and Ebsco platforms.

The Anthropological Literature database has moved to the FirstSearch platform. The new URL is http://0-newfirstsearch.oclc.org.oasis.oregonstate.edu/fsip?autho=100323354.

On September 16th, Anthropological Literature will be migrating from the RLG Eureka interface to the FirstSearch interface.

The EconLit database has moved to the EbscoHost platform, the same platform as Academic Search Premier and Business Source Premier.

EconLit is a bibliographic database that provides indexing and abstracting to over 400 journals, plus books, dissertations and working papers in economics. It is a reliable source of citations and abstracts to economic research dating back to 1969. It provides indexing to all fields of economics, including capital markets, country studies, econometrics, economic forecasting, environmental economics, government regulations, labor economics, monetary theory, urban economics and much more. EconLit uses the JEL classification system and controlled vocabulary of keywords to index six types of records: journal articles, books, collective volume articles, dissertations, working papers, and full text book reviews from the Journal of Economic Literature. Examples of publications indexed in EconLit include: Accounting Review, Advances in Macroeconomics, African Finance Journal, American Economist, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Business Economics, Canadian Journal of Development Studies, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Applied Business Research, Marketing Science, Policy, Small Business Economics, Technology Analysis and Strategic Management.

Web of Science (Science Citation Index and Social Citation Index) will be moving to a new interface over the next few months. You can start using the new interface now by clicking on the “Access the New Version” button on the center of the page header of the Web of Science page.

New features of the interface include:

• Retrieve up to 100,000 results, automatically sorted by the journal cover publication date.
• Easily refine and analyze your search results.
• Saved searches from the previous version of ISI Web of Knowledge will run in the new version. Searches saved in the new version will only run on the new version.
• Journal Citation Reports®, Essential Science Indicators^SM, and Highly Cited Researchers^SM are available from the Additional Resources tab in the new version. They will be configured in the new interface in an upcoming release.
• During the period of when both versions are available, items saved into EndNote Web from either version will link to the older version of ISI Web of Knowledge.
• Marked List functionality will be provided by mid-November. In the meantime, users can output records by printing, emailing, or saving directly to EndNote Web.

The old interface will be available until January 2008.

LexisNexis Academic has moved to the new interface.

New features include:

• Company Dossier will be included in all U.S. subscriptions
• Search across broad content such as all news or all federal and state cases
• Powerful source selection using language, geographic, topic, and other facets

CIOS has added a new feature to complement our ComIndex and ComAbstracts databases: ComVista.

ComVista is a guide to programs of study in communication-related departments in North American higher education. ComVista can help you make better decisions about places to work or study and it can assist in the evaluation of a program’s impact in the field.

1. Use ComVista to find information on colleges and universities by state or province. Select a state or province and you’ll be shown a list of all 4 year colleges and universities with substantial communication or journalism departments. Select an institutional profile to view a summary of the significant research specialties of faculty who work in the communication-related programs within the institution.

Or select the option to view a profile of departments and faculty. You’ll be shown a roster of communication-related departments and faculty teaching courses in them. Select a faculty member within a department and you’ll be able to review all his or her published research appearing in the CIOS’s comprehensive ComAbstracts database (personal or institutional subscription required).

2. Use ComVista to locate colleges and universities that are leading centers for research in the field’s primary areas of study. Select an area of research and you will be shown a ranked list of the top institutions associated with published research on the selected topic.
