Database trial: Primary Sources in Counseling and Psychology

A trial has been set up of the Alexander Street Press database Primary Sources in Counseling and Psychology. This trial will run through December 31, 2007.

Primary Sources in Counseling and Psychology is a searchable collection containing real transcripts of therapy and counseling sessions and first-person narratives illuminating the experience of mental illness and its treatment, as well as reference works to contextualize the primary material. New material is added on a biweekly basis and, when complete, the database will contain more than 2,000 session transcripts, 40,000 pages of first-person accounts, and 25,000 pages of secondary reference material. The database currently includes approximately 12,500 pages of material, including about 1,800 pages of reference material, 5,700 pages of personal accounts, and 4,900 pages of session transcripts.

Database trial: Chronicle of Higher Education

OSU Libraries has set up a trial for the Chronicle of Higher Education. This trial will run through November 15, 2007.

The Chronicle of Higher Education is an important source of news, information, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators.

Online, The Chronicle is published every weekday and features the complete contents of the latest issue; daily news and advice columns; thousands of current job listings and more.

America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts moving to Ebsco platform

EbscoHost has purchased the ABC-Clio databases America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts. These databases are now available on the Ebsco platform. They will continue to be available on the ABC-Clio platform until December 31, 2007.

America: History & Life is the definitive index of literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. With indexing for 1,700 journals from 1964 to present, this database is the most important bibliographic reference tool for students and scholars of U.S. and Canadian history. Strong English-language journal coverage is balanced by an international perspective on topics and events, including abstracts in English of articles published in more than 40 languages. It is currently available on the ABC-Clio and Ebsco platforms.

Historical Abstracts is an exceptional resource that covers the history of the world (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to the present, including world history, military history, women’s history, history of education, and more – essential for libraries supporting upper-division and graduate research. This authoritative database provides indexing of more than 1,700 academic historical journals in over 40 languages back to 1955. It is currently available on the ABC-Clio and Ebsco platforms.

Anthropological Literature – new interface

The Anthropological Literature database has moved to the FirstSearch platform. The new URL is http://0-newfirstsearch.oclc.org.oasis.oregonstate.edu/fsip?autho=100323354.

Anthropological Literature is a bibliographic index to articles and essays on anthropology and archaeology, including art history, demography, economics, psychology, and religious studies. Updated quarterly, Anthropological Literature indexes articles two or more pages long in works published in English and other European languages from the 19th century to the present.

Database trial: SimplyMap

A trial has been set up for the SimplyMap database. SimplyMap is an Internet-based mapping application that enables users to develop interactive thematic maps and reports using thousands of demographic, business, and marketing data variables. The trial will run through October 31, 2007.

You will need to create a personal workspace to use the database during the trial. Instructions are on the home page of the database.

The trial provides access to the EASI ® Standard Package, which includes data from the year 2000, 2006 Estimates, 2011 Projections, and the MRI & EASI Life Stage Clusters.

On September 16th, Anthropological Literature will be migrating from the RLG Eureka interface to the FirstSearch interface.

EconLit move to Ebsco platform

The EconLit database has moved to the EbscoHost platform, the same platform as Academic Search Premier and Business Source Premier.

EconLit is a bibliographic database that provides indexing and abstracting to over 400 journals, plus books, dissertations and working papers in economics. It is a reliable source of citations and abstracts to economic research dating back to 1969. It provides indexing to all fields of economics, including capital markets, country studies, econometrics, economic forecasting, environmental economics, government regulations, labor economics, monetary theory, urban economics and much more. EconLit uses the JEL classification system and controlled vocabulary of keywords to index six types of records: journal articles, books, collective volume articles, dissertations, working papers, and full text book reviews from the Journal of Economic Literature. Examples of publications indexed in EconLit include: Accounting Review, Advances in Macroeconomics, African Finance Journal, American Economist, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Business Economics, Canadian Journal of Development Studies, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Applied Business Research, Marketing Science, Policy, Small Business Economics, Technology Analysis and Strategic Management.

Upcoming change to Web of Science

Web of Science (Science Citation Index and Social Citation Index) will be moving to a new interface over the next few months. You can start using the new interface now by clicking on the “Access the New Version” button on the center of the page header of the Web of Science page.

New features of the interface include:

  • Retrieve up to 100,000 results, automatically sorted by the journal cover publication date.
  • Easily refine and analyze your search results.
  • Saved searches from the previous version of ISI Web of Knowledge will run in the new version. Searches saved in the new version will only run on the new version.
  • Journal Citation Reports®, Essential Science IndicatorsSM, and Highly Cited ResearchersSM are available from the Additional Resources tab in the new version. They will be configured in the new interface in an upcoming release.
  • During the period of when both versions are available, items saved into EndNote Web from either version will link to the older version of ISI Web of Knowledge.
  • Marked List functionality will be provided by mid-November. In the meantime, users can output records by printing, emailing, or saving directly to EndNote Web.

The old interface will be available until January 2008.

New Interface: LexisNexis Academic
