Hey readers!
Introduce my self. My name is Dylan Mitchel Karambut or you can just call me Dylan for short. Or even if you want to call me Dyson Airwrap as a TikToker suggested for a nickname for Dylan will also be fine. At the end, it is only a name
The journey will be based on the perspective from an international student from Indonesia. And now I am currently finishing up my senior year at Oregon State University hence I am still at Corvallis, OR.
Needless to say there a lot to talk from me here. I found a lot of differences yet similarities between my home country and the place where I pursue my undergraduate degree.
And obviously I will talk about food in terms that it is so different between my home country. Funny enough I typically eat Western food back in my home country but I always miss my home country food when I am here. Fortunately enough I have a friend that able to make great food from my home country that comforting my needs.
Enough said for food talk, now I will start talking about the things described best as a love hate relationship. Yes it is my Computer Science major.
My journey with hands on with technology started back when it was on my childhood. From what I can recall, it was around play group to elementary school time. Despite I love working around my computer yet, somehow I keep blowing up the computer to the point the IT technician gave up fixing my computer since I keep broke it to the point weekly.
Fast forward to my high school, I had fortunate events where one of my best friends is a computer nerds. And obviously we trash talk of each other laptop and debating which laptop is better. And not surprisingly our laptop was a trash since it is quite old laptop at that time. About 4 or so years laptop.
Although that time, I learned a lot in hardware department and this is the first time where I was able to successfully upgraded my laptop RAM and SSD. And too bad that my new laptop has soldered RAM and SSD making it seems like a useless opportunity, when actually it is not.
Around that time also where I started applying for University. At that time, I just applied to a bunch of universities. You know, just like how everyone is doing. But what makes it different is that I also applied universities abroad. And actually I did not told my parents that I applied to universities abroad. And when I actually got the love letter from OSU, they are surprised.
From that you may ask, “why OSU?”. Well just because they have Artificial Intelligence focus where this is not a common thing back in my home country. Also, I always excited to live abroad just to experience it since I feel like travelling for a week does not give the best results as to what it feels like living in that country.
Fast forward again when I am at OSU and here it is now I am writing this blogs with my Surface Go inside the library where it is pretty empty. Well because it is end of Week 1 and everyone just had parties instead of homework. |
At OSU, I actually just moved my job as UIT-Telecom. And I really enjoyed working there since now I understand how hard it is actually to make a phone call. While I mostly just replying to customer ticket, often times I love to find a problem with that Avaya on campus phone. Believe me, a simple desk phone can broke and there are reasons OSU hired me as a student worker here.
While my projects did not relates to Artificial Intelligence, at least not my personal project wise that explains why my GitHub is pretty much empty and it just has a bunch of my private classes repo for backup purposes. Although Twitter is where my testing projects happened. And yeah it just a bunch of speedtesting from all over the place. And I have the idea to implement a map that has the fastest speed with it since hey I tested a lot of places and I have the data anyway. For now, I still need to figure out how to use the data from Speedtest application to able to read the GNSS coordinates with the carrier and speed.
That being said, right now I am one of the office of OSU AI Club. And fortunately this term, we will be working with Natural Language Processing that will be useful and relates with my topic of Capstone Projects. I honestly hear a lot of mixed bags regarding capstone classes but I am hoping that I will learn a lot of things when producing a project with my group.
Unfortunately, as the time of this writing, it is a lunch time. I just want to say thank you and I am hoping that you are enjoying reading my first blog in 2022.
