I think the biggest thing that I learned that I know I’ll use again, and what I used the most throughout the term, was how to insert a link into what I’m writing online. I know that is probably unexpected and I should say something about opening my eyes to the gender lens, but I’ve taken some Women’s Studies classes before (I’m not saying I’m an expert, far from it) and my eyes were already somewhat open to the lens.
This class forced me to really pay attention to what I’m reading, not that I don’t usually but articles that teachers post tend to be a little broad and overwhelming, and I’m not always sure what to make out of them. Although with this class, I got to somewhat choose what I wanted to read and what I didn’t want to read. I really liked that aspect. Also, having to discuss the readings on Blackboard helped with trying to understand what the article was saying. All of which I can take with me in my future career. I will be able to professionally respond to e-mails, questions and whatever else crosses my professional path.
I would say that this course did a good job to try and exemplify feminist pedagogy to the students because it made us open our eyes to what’s around us, and we had to give examples from the real world to show what we were learning about. An article, or rather a video, that sticks out in my mind was the one about the Tide commercial about the stay-at-home dad. Commercials like that give me hope that one day we can achieve equality, but until then I’m going to try and follow my dreams and to not let anyone (man or woman) get in the way of that.

I just wanted to make a quick post on here to say that my Teach project is called “Multiple Pictures on Facebook Cover Photo,” which is located under pages. Everything starts there and the lesson is called “Step-by-step.” I’m writing here to make sure that there isn’t any confusion. I didn’t see what to put in a blog post, so I wanted to reassure that everything was in the right spot. This project was a lot easier once I learned how to do a screenshot! Thanks for the tutorial on that!

The big thing that I learned this week was that studying abroad costs a heck of a lot more then I thought it would. I found this out along the way of applying for studying abroad, but by breaking it all down of what I need and what I want was a big eye opener. I don’t think I’ve ever really sat down and figured out how much I spend each month, which makes preparing to study abroad kinda tough. While I found the budget sheets online and Microsoft Excel helpful, I’d much rather write it all down and calculate it myself. I’m much more of a hands on and visual person, so I’m more comfortable with the old fashioned way I guess. I’m not 100% sure that I did everything right, but I did have A LOT of fun writing about my dream! It took me a little while to think why I wanted to go to Italy, but once I started writing I couldn’t stop! So I apologize if it’s a little long. Finding photos of the places I’ll get to see was also a lot of fun.

Since before I can really remember, traveling the world has been my ultimate dream. I couldn’t even pin point when or where I got it into my mind that I wanted to see the world. I just did. I think the point where it really hit me was when I learned that my Uncle Chris got a job in London, England and my cousins and aunt and uncle were moving there. That was about five years ago and I recall that my cousin Nicole was devastated and didn’t want to go! I couldn’t believe it. I told my mom that I would take her place. I mean I get leaving all your childhood friends behind, but it’s ENGLAND we are talking about!

Think of the places you could see and experience. Nicole and her brother David did just that. They both were apart of their school’s volleyball and basketball teams and they traveled playing different teams around the world. Nicole definitely isn’t devastated about it now, but back then it was a pretty big deal. I was lucky enough to visit them after my high school graduation! My mom and I went and I had the best time of my life! I could totally see myself living in London.
So with travel in mind, I’ve decided to study abroad to the one place that has been on the very top of my list: Italy. I know that it is extremely expensive and I honestly don’t understand how ANYONE can truly afford it, but it really is an experience of a life time and I know that I won’t get this kind of opportunity again in a very long time, so I’m taking my chance while I can. To make it an even better trip, I got my friend Jessica (who is also taking this class) to come along with me! We both went to the same small-town high school and have similar dreams. I have to admit I’m not as afraid of being in a foreign country if someone I know and trust is there with me. It will certainly make Thanksgiving a lot more happy! I’m choosing to my travel abroad to Italy for my project because the cost is extremely expensive and it will be really good to have in mind at how much I have to spend and how much I want to spend. It will make traveling to other places a lot easier. Speaking of other places, we already know where we would like to go! Or at the very least, the countries that we would like to see.

I am lucky enough to return to England! Jessica and I will be in England a couple of days before our study abroad trip and a couple of days before we go home. My family will still be there in the summer, so we will have a place to stay (luckily) but we will have to find our own place to stay before we come back home. I’m excited to show some of the places I know in England to Jessica!

My family on my mom’s side is from Switzerland and they own a winery there! So Jessica and I will be going to visit! It’s a requirement for me, sort of, but it will be fun and exciting to see where I am from.

Greece! I’ve always wanted to go to Greece! The history has always fascinated me and as I am taking History of Ancient Greece this term, I am even more excited to actually see the places that I am learning about.

We would love to make it to Paris! I have a friend who was a foreign exchange student from high school and she lives in France. I’m going to see if maybe we could come visit her!

Of course we will be exploring all of Italy! The place that I am most excited to see is Venice!

I can’t believe that my dream is coming true! It still doesn’t seem real and I’m totally stressing out about the cost and how my financial aid will transfer to our program. Plus I have no idea how I’m going to pay for my summer classes, let alone other travel accommodations! My term in Italy will be my last term ever, and same goes for Jessica. We are really going all out! And I’m pretty proud to be graduation early, considering that my brother graduated a term late and his friends even later. Part of the reason that I’m going abroad is to figure out who I am. I need to grow. I need to experience something out of my comfort zone because that has ALWAYS been really difficult for me. Being in a foreign country will DEFINITELY put me out of my comfort zone, but it will be a good thing. I’m also hoping that I might figure out what I want to do with my life because it scares me a little not knowing what I’ll be doing after I graduate.  Although I do have other dreams, which are:
-Publishing my novel (yet to be written)
-Own a second hand bookstore/coffee shop with drinks named after fictional characters!
-Going to an elephant reserve/rescue center in Thailand with my cousin, Allie
-See as much of the world as my feet will carry me to

At first I had absolutely no idea how to upload an image and I was concerned at first, but after looking at the instructions it became really easy to understand. I started uploading images on Wednesday and didn’t get to go back and upload more until Sunday, but it was easy to remember. Almost like I was doing it my entire life. Trying to upload a video was really frustrating. I understood how to put the link in, but getting the actual video on my blog was something I didn’t get to accomplish. I meant to ask how, but time escaped me this week. I’m proud of the research I did on Alessandra and it was really interesting to learn some of the cultural things that women had and have to go through in Italy.

For my financial analysis, I have two choices picked out. One: because I’m going to study abroad in Italy in the fall and I want to travel, it would be really useful to try and figure out how to do that now. Two: my ultimate dream is to own my own bookstore one day and I would love to know how and what it takes to do that.

I am a little late, yet again, on my blog for this week. So, my main struggle was that this project was VERY time consuming. I found it extremely hard to find scholarly articles on Allessandra, but I knew I would going into this because she is so new. Although that was the very reason why I chose her. I thought that her new discovery to find cancer was amazing and I wanted to know more! The library databases weren’t help to me at all, so I went to Google Scholar and to Google to get the information I needed, but that felt like it took forever because I sat and looked through so many articles to find some that I could use. Although I did find some really amazing videos that show how Allessandra’s technology works and it is far better than how I could explain it, so I’m excited to post this later this week. After I got the information I needed on Allessandra, I ran into trouble trying to figure out the culture part of this assignment and also the trends, because I wasn’t really sure on what to look for. Allessandra’s field of study is so peculiar, that I had to result to general science, technology and research. Even out of all the information that I found, I still don’t think it’s enough but I hope it’s enough to pass this assignment! I also felt like I didn’t have enough time to get all my information because I really didn’t know what I was looking for until this week, but that was my fault for not looking or asking sooner. All in all, I was amazed by Allessandra. She’s only 34 and she has helped the world to become a better place to live and I can’t help but think that she will continue to do so.

I was really confused for this week, but I think I got it by the end or at least I hope I did. I didn’t quite understand why we had to put posts and pages for our future projects now rather than later because I hadn’t really started thinking about what I was even going to do for the projects. I got really nervous and frustrated as to what I was going to write down, and I’m not even sure if it is right. I suppose that I should ask if it is, but I’m confident enough to think that it’s mostly right which seems bad but that’s the way I am and I’m comfortable with that. I liked how we had to make our theme different from everyone Else’s because that’s where my creative part comes in and it’s what makes this more me and less of anyone else and less of an assignment. The part I didn’t like was having to put all these things that I won’t even use until later, but perhaps I’ll learn that I’m glad I got it out of the way now rather than having to do it during my project.

I’ve always wanted to do a blog before but I never got around to it, or maybe I’ve never really had a reason to write a blog. I hope I’m doing all of this right, its still very confusing. The reason I am doing a blog is for my women’s studies class for gender and technology. I thought it was a very creative idea, but its proving to be a lot more difficult than I had anticipated. I’m not really sure what to expect from this class and it seems like a lot of work, but I’m hoping to learn more about computers and what I can do on them because I don’t really know, and the world basically revolves around technology now. Learning more about this will definitely help me in the long run. I’m not really sure what else to say at the moment, so goodbye for now!
