As I said in my previous post, the woman I chose to do my culture project on is Allessandra Luchini. She is an italian woman who invented/developed a new technology that finds biomarkers in urine and blood that can detect cancer and other illnesses sooner than ever before. She has taken nanoparticles, which were used for drug delivery, and engineered them to capture things that are present in the body. Because she is 34 and is fairly new to the science and technology industry I have been having trouble finding scholarly sources in the school’s library database that will help with my research on her. I had emailed Jane Nichols (the librarian) on Wednesday, but she didn’t get back to me until Sunday night because she was out of town. She told me, as did the other librarians that I instant messaged online, to use Google Scholar because she is so new to the field. I found that this was a bigger help than the other databases and with just searching online. I’m only just searching but from what I’ve found, Allessandra sounds like an amazing woman.
Ciao for now!

Maybe not a CURE for cancer, but certainly a step in the right direction! Dr. Allessandra Luchini is a 34 year old and is originally from Italy, but got an opportunity to come to the Untied States. She and a group of other scientists developed a new technology that finds biomarkers in urine and blood that can detect cancer sooner than ever before. I hope that I am able to do more research on her because she sounds truly amazing! I also chose her because she’s from Italy and I’m going there in the fall, so perhaps in doing this I will learn more if the italian culture! I do realize that I am late in the game for choosing someone to do my topic on, but it’s been a very busy week and weekend and I didn’t want to choose someone just to choose someone.
Ciao for now!

I was really confused for this week, but I think I got it by the end or at least I hope I did. I didn’t quite understand why we had to put posts and pages for our future projects now rather than later because I hadn’t really started thinking about what I was even going to do for the projects. I got really nervous and frustrated as to what I was going to write down, and I’m not even sure if it is right. I suppose that I should ask if it is, but I’m confident enough to think that it’s mostly right which seems bad but that’s the way I am and I’m comfortable with that. I liked how we had to make our theme different from everyone Else’s because that’s where my creative part comes in and it’s what makes this more me and less of anyone else and less of an assignment. The part I didn’t like was having to put all these things that I won’t even use until later, but perhaps I’ll learn that I’m glad I got it out of the way now rather than having to do it during my project.
Ciao for now!

Teach April 12th, 2012
This project is about creating a lesson plan in order to teach someone about how to use a piece of technology. This project scares me a little bit because I have absolutely no idea what to do and how to go about it. Hopefully I’ll be more comfortable with this as the course goes on.

This project is a financial analysis of one of my biggest dreams! My problem is going to be which dream. I’m going to Italy in the fall, so figuring out how I’m going to finance that now would be wonderful! But my biggest dream would be to own a bookstore one day, so seeing what it will take to do that would be wonderful for me too.

This project is going to be research about a woman in a different country and culture and how she is using technology. I have no idea what my plan is for this project because I only just starting thinking about it. I’m leaning towards women in India or Africa because those countries are most deprived from technology so it would be interesting to see what kinds of things women are doing there.

I’ve always wanted to do a blog before but I never got around to it, or maybe I’ve never really had a reason to write a blog. I hope I’m doing all of this right, its still very confusing. The reason I am doing a blog is for my women’s studies class for gender and technology. I thought it was a very creative idea, but its proving to be a lot more difficult than I had anticipated. I’m not really sure what to expect from this class and it seems like a lot of work, but I’m hoping to learn more about computers and what I can do on them because I don’t really know, and the world basically revolves around technology now. Learning more about this will definitely help me in the long run. I’m not really sure what else to say at the moment, so goodbye for now!
